Department of Mechanical Engineering
Hello, my name is Serenay Feyiz and I am a student in the Mechanical Engineering Department of Erzurum Technical University. Mechanical engineering is a department that aims to develop research skills in students; to produce well-equipped individuals who can utilise technology; and to prioritize analytical and solution oriented thinking to problems. It is located on Erzurum Technical University Central Campus. In the first year, basic courses such as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are given. In the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades, field courses such as Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Machine Elements and Engineering Materials are given. Apart from these field courses, elective courses such as Refrigeration Techniques, Non-Destructive Inspection and Reverse Engineering are given, related to the area you want to focus on. Computer-assisted applications such as Solidworks, Matlab, AutoCAD are also provided for an engineering student to improve themselves. We have a Heat Transfer Laboratory, a Machining Laboratory and Mechanical Laboratories within the scope of the Machinery Laboratory and we take practical courses in these laboratories. In our university, we have two mandatory internships, namely Workshop and Management. Every year, our school provides students with the opportunity to meet with companies at the Career Fair thus enabling them to undertake their internship. Should you so wish, you have the opportunity to do an internship in various European countries within the scope of Erasmus Internship Mobility. Our school provides the necessary support during an internship period of 1 or 2 months. As Graduation Projects, we have Machine Design-1 and Machine Design-2 courses for 4th grade students. Students take these lessons by putting into practice the theoretical knowledge they have acquired up to 4th grade. After graduation we can work in fields such as the space and defense industry, maintenance and repair, control and automation systems, project and design. I had wanted to be an engineer. After the university exam results were announced, I did some research on mechanical engineering and saw that mechanical engineering was one of the basic engineering principles. I chose the Mechanical Engineering Department because I saw the possibility of working in a wide range of fields. I chose Erzurum Technical University because it is a well qualified self-developed university among a number of existing technical universities in our country. The thing that I most benefited from in Erzurum Technical University is being trained by experts in their field. My goal after graduation is to choose my own field, receive more training in it, specialize and become a good engineer. My advice to our colleagues who might choose Erzurum Technical University is as follows: use the facilities of our university to the fullest, work hard to be a good engineer and please come to the department you have a passion for and have researched. I would be happy to see you all here!
