Faculty of Law
Hello, my name is Zeynep Irmak Yanık and I am a 4th year student at Ufuk University in the Faculty of Law. Ufuk University Faculty of Law started its education in 2002 and has been established with the aim of raising qualified individuals who are respectful to human rights, not just limited to professional groups such as lawyers, judges and prosecution offices. Our faculty is currently continuing its education and training on its new campus in Ankara İncek. The courses in our faculty consist of annual and semester courses. Our faculty consists of a 4-year academic program. This training program offers courses in essential areas such as Criminal Law, Law of Obligations, Civil Law, Commercial Law, International Public and International Private Law, Civil Procedure Law, and Constitutional Law along with electives in newly developing law fields. The contents of these elective courses are updated every year. Law is an area that provides theoretical education rather than workshops and laboratories. However, a practice courtroom is located in our faculty in order to apply the theoretical education we receive. Thanks to this courtroom, the theoretical knowledge gained in the course can be put into practice in order to adapt to social life. After graduating from a Faculty of Law, in addition to professions only open to law faculty graduates—such as lawyers, prosecutors, judicial judges and notaries—they also have the opportunity to work in areas such as foreign affairs, banking, and insurance. Law is a very broad and versatile area which is not only fed by all social sciences but rather nurtures them. First of all, I chose Faculty of Law because I believe that people should know the law to be a developed individual and also to defend one's own rights and then to defend the rights of others. The academic staff was very important in my choice of Ufuk University. This is because all of the academics here are accomplished, experienced and student-centred and have internalised the principle of 'we are here for you'. The Ufuk University Incek Campus has a library of 8,000 volumes of legal expertise. It is open 24/7. There is a free shuttle service between the Balgat and the Incek Campus. Ufuk University Incek Campus has a gym with an indoor swimming pool. The Incek Campus also has a variety of cafes, volleyball, basketball, dance, theatre and so on where there are teams and student societies, carrying out successful studies in their fields. In short, Ufuk University offers all the facilities a student may want. I mostly made use of the library—which is the second home of a Faculty of Law student. I am currently a 4th year student in the Faculty of Law and I will complete my one-year legal internship at the bar of lawyers. Then I would like to continue my graduate studies abroad. What enabled me to achieve this goal was my motivation towards this area and that my department is 30% English. Apart from this, I would like to work in the field of ‘Legal English’. Law is very detailed and I think the secrets of being a good lawyer are hidden in knowing these details. Law is constantly developing and changing in an ever-developing and ever-changing world and we have to continually work very hard to adapt to this process. It requires continuous work to become a qualified individual who respects human rights, not only knowing basic legal knowledge. What I would recommend to those friends who will choose this department is this—people will come up to you and say ‘You can never pass this course.’ or ‘It is all based on rote learning.’ I believe that they should ignore such remarks and make this department enjoyable by working in a regular and orderly manner. I wish success to those friends taking the entrance exam and choosing this department.
