Department of Foreign Language Education - French Language Teaching

Hello, I am Lecturer Talat Fatih Uluç, from Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Hasan Ali Yücel Faculty of Education, Department of Foreign Language Education, German Language Teaching branch. I am also the coordinator responsible for the internships of all the programs in the faculty. I’ve been an academic for four years. I completed my undergraduate and graduate education at Marmara University and my doctorate education at Istanbul University. The Department of Foreign Language ​​Education within the Istanbul University - Cerrahpaşa Hasan Ali Yücel Faculty of Education consists of 3 main branches; German Language Teaching, French Language Teaching and English Language Teaching. In the Guide of Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), these main sections are mentioned as teaching departments. the German Language Teaching Department, the French Language Teaching Department and the English Language Teaching Department. We are a department that operates with a total of 22 lecturers, 6 in German language education, 6 in French language education, and 10 in English language education. We have an 8-semester 4-year program and an undergraduate program, which is devised according to the curriculum for education faculties planned out by the Council of Higher Education. In the first year, we usually have courses on foreign language and language skills. From the second year on, we focus more on the teaching courses. Our students take a practice course called teaching practice in the 7th and 8th semesters in the last year; they attend internship courses and attend classes for 6 hours a week in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, and they also practice lecturing themselves, especially in the second term, by learning about the structure of the education system of national education. Within the scope of this application, the schools in which our students will do their internship are determined by the faculty. The point we pay attention here is that our students' academic skills, academic achievements, and language proficiency levels are important in deciding which schools they will do their internships during their four years of education. We always scan for students in prominent high schools which produce great alumni so they can join our ranks in the German, French and English Language Teaching Departments. We also work with such high schools like Private German High School, SEV American College, Istanbul High School, Cağaloğlu Anatolian High School, which educate students for higher education institutions.
As you know, our department has 14 Erasmus agreements, in accordance with the European Council. Among these we have eleven agreements with Germany, one agreement with Poland, one agreement with the Czech Republic and one with France. As the Department of Foreign Language ​​Education, we have completed the second European Union project so far, but apart from this, our departments are separately partnering in European Union projects and these studies continue. After successfully completing their undergraduate education, our students can work as a German teacher, an English teacher and a French teacher at all levels of the Ministry of Education and private schools. In addition, they work as English, German and French language lecturers in Higher Education Institutions, universities, foreign languages ​​schools or foreign languages ​​departments. We also have students working in other branches other than teaching. During their undergraduate education, our students may have difficulties in some courses, especially with the inclusion of field courses starting from the second grade, but the important thing here is that our academics are open to communication and are student friendly. Therefore, when our students have private or education related difficulties, they can always easily ask help from their teachers. Hasan Ali Yücel Faculty of Education, as its name implies, is a faculty that trains teachers. If you love to teach someone, if you have good communication skills, you should definitely choose this profession. Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa is located in the heart of Turkey.
