Department of Banking and Finance

I'm Muhammad Ali Bahar. I am a senior student at the Department of Banking and Finance at Yıldırım Beyazıt University in Ankara. The Department of Banking and Finance is a 5-year undergraduate program with one-year of preparatory education. Purpose of the department is to educate students who can keep up with and dominate the dynamic financial sector, which is constantly changing globally. The department is located in the Esenboğa Campus. The courses offered in our department are generally Business, Accounting, Economics and Introduction to Law courses which are common to the other departments in the first two years and Academic English courses which continue for 4 years. In the 3rd and 4th years, multi-departmental, finance-oriented courses are offered. In addition, in the 3rd and 4th years, we can also take elective courses like a second foreign language and courses from other faculties. There is a compulsory internship after the 2nd year in our school. It is compulsory, which makes it easier for students to apply for internships. In order to graduate, we must have completed at least 20 working days in an internship. Students who do not do an internship can graduate after preparing and presenting a graduation project in their final year on a topic they have chosen with the help of their professors. After graduating from the department, we are able to provide financial consultancy in the private sector. We can easily find jobs in banks and financial companies. In addition to this, we can find jobs as an assistant expert, internal auditor in public institutions or in financial institutions such as CMB (Capital Markets Board of Turkey) and the İstanbul Stock Exchange. One of the facilities offered to us while studying in the department is that we can benefit from sports complexes and swimming pools at discounted rates thanks to the agreements made by the school with the municipality. In addition, the libraries and study halls in each faculty and campus are open 24 hours a day, particularly during the exam periods. The canteens also serve us 24 hours. The opportunity I most benefit from is our academic staff. We really have an extensive academic staff body. All of our professors are highly equipped individuals who have been educated abroad. They also really guide us in terms of our courses and extracurricular activities. After graduation, I want to continue my academic career by completing my graduate studies. I also want to work for an international non-governmental organization. My advice to students who are considering the department is regarding English, which is one of the aspects I most hesitate about. Don't worry about that. After successfully completing the one-year language preparatory program, students can follow the courses very easily. In addition, they can attend some undergraduate programs such as Capital Market and Real Estate Appraisal during their undergraduate education and obtain certain licenses while they are students. Numerical courses may cause students to focus excessively on the lessons. But that would be a big mistake; they should not neglect socialization. Our school provides really great opportunities for socializing. Students can participate in social activities organized by various student social clubs. I wish success to the students who will come to our university.
