Faculty of Architecture

My name is Yusuf Akkoyun, from Ankara. I am a sophomore student at Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Faculty of Architecture, located in the Esenboğa Campus. The aim of this department is to train qualified, young and dynamic architects for our country. The main course in our department, known as studio, is a project course. This is a course that every student has to take each semester. The project course is an important course with varying credits like 10, 11, 12. With its overall high average, in addition to this course, there are different courses such as Technical Drawing Course, Model Making Course, Building Courses, History of Architecture given. We have 4 different studios where our project courses take place. These studios are in the form of workshops. We also have a computer lab for computer-aided courses. In addition, we have classrooms where theoretical courses are given. Every student has to do an on-site internship at the end of the second year. At the end of the third year, we have to do an office internship. In addition, there are graduation projects which each student must pass in the 4th year in order to graduate. If they can't pass, they can't graduate. After graduating from the department, I can start working in an office or open my own office. I can work at a construction site if I want to. If I want to be an academician, I can teach as a research assistant in universities after completing my master's and doctorate degrees. The biggest reason I chose the department was myself, because I love this job and I grew up dreaming of doing it. I also think that there is a need for competent professionals in this field in my country. I want to be useful to my country. My main reason for choosing this university was that it is in Ankara. In addition, another major factor in choosing this university was the faculty members. Our academics are really experienced professors who have done their masters and doctorates abroad. I chose this university because there are academics who have followed and continue to follow where the vision of architecture is heading, not only nationally but also internationally. What we need most when working in the Department of Architecture is time and space. The biggest facility offered to us is that the workspaces are always open. In other words, we have the opportunity to go to these workshops and stay for as long as we wish and prepare our models and drawings there. This is the opportunity I benefited the most. After graduation, I want to do my master's degree abroad. After doing my master’s degree abroad, I want to come back to Turkey and be an architect in an office. I hope to open my own office in the future as I want to be the head of an architecture office. My advice to friends coming to the department is to come to the department fondly and continue to love it. This is a demanding field, so never spare your labor in this department. I wish success to the students who will come to the Faculty of Architecture at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University.
