Coaching Education
I am Associate Professor Burçak Keskin. I am the Head of the Department of Coaching Education at the Faculty of Sports Sciences at Yalova University. At the same time, I have been working as the Vice Dean responsible for the Education since 2019. The Coaching Education Department is actually a package program designed to train trainers in various branches on national and international platforms. Our aim in this department, which we founded in accordance with the YÖK regulations, is to train young trainers who are idealistic, who can improve themselves in research, and who can follow popular techniques. This is our main goal. Our second goal is to ensure that people who have served as national athletes for years, people who want to take a new step in sports, and athletes who want to improve themselves in coaching can receive their education from a successful university. When we look at the curriculum of the Department of Coaching Education, we can divide the courses into two parts as theoretical and practical. In the theoretical parts, we teach the science of sports such as movement training, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and kinematics. We both teach technical and tactical teaching methods, and then we aim to enable them to develop those through applications. We have a tennis court, an outdoor and an indoor basketball court, and, an indoor and an outdoor football field. It has also been agreed as a protocol on the construction of a new stadium and sports facility in 2022-2023 with the contribution of the Ministry of Sports. Apart from this, we will continue to serve and train our students with a good performance laboratory in 2022-2023 within the scope of a project we set out with the aim of establishing an athletic performance laboratory for our students to improve themselves. In the 7th and 8th semesters, we have an internship course that consists of eight hours under the name of the compulsory internship program, which they can do at the Provincial Directorates of Youth and Sports and various clubs. The main purpose of this course will be to increase the capacity to apply all the lessons we teach theoretically. We think that this will open an important door in their future professional life. When we look at our work at the national level, we support our students in their self-development by directing them to the tournaments and organizations to be held with the federations and the Ministry of Sports, as well as the Youth and Sports Provincial Directorate. After our students complete their specialty sports branch practices, they graduate from here as coaches in their branches. They have the right to enter the 3rd level coaching course opened by the Ministry of Sports. Apart from this, they have the chance to enter the coaching staff in institutions and organizations. They can work as coaching trainers in private schools. They can also take part in positions such as conditioner, athletic performance specialist, sports masseuse and masseur. However, it is possible for them to work as trainers in private clubs and private sports facilities. Yalova University has a very valuable place in the Marmara Region. Especially with the protocol signed with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, we will become a water sports hub. I think that the water sports center, which is planned to be completed in 2023, will add a lot to Yalova. I believe that it will be a great source of development especially for our students. We will all become professionals in water sports. Apart from this, the fact that students have more working opportunities due to their proximity to the surrounding big cities will also increase their chances of employment after graduation. We believe that our students will be successful in their careers. We would like to thank the students who will choose us and for being with us in advance, and we look forward to seeing them here for the good work we will do together.
