Department of Turkish Language and Literature

Hello, friends! I am Başak Karaağaç. I am a second grade Turkish Language and Literature Department student at Başkent University. Our department was established in order to detailedly deal with the contemporary Turkish Language and Literature from its earliest times to the present. It is located in the Faculty of Arts and Science building on the Bağlı campus of Başkent University. There are four main departments here: New Turkish Literature, Old Turkish Literature, New Turkish Language and Old Turkish Language. There are also sub branches of the departments. Education on these subbranches is also given. In the field of language, there are also courses on New Turkish Language, Old Turkish Language and Dialects. From the earliest times of Turkish Literature, we learn about the evolution of Turkish language which is influenced by Persian and Arabic Literature and extends to Modern Turkish Literature. We have conference rooms; we use these rooms to make presentations. Our department does not have an internship requirement, but if we successfully complete the research projects we will do with our advisors at the fourth grade and get the passing grade, we will become eligible to graduate. When you graduate from this department, you can work in publishing houses, you can teach in the educational institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education (after you have received your initial teacher training certificate). You can be an academician to conduct research in the university. This department offers a variety of opportunities. First of all, hello, friends. I am Musa Aydogdu, a 2nd year student in the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Başkent University. While studying at school, I was a student who was interested in literature classes and who was happy to attend them. Besides, I like to read books. That is why I preferred this department. There are two main reasons why I prefer Başkent University. The first is the teaching staff. I can say that these are the best teachers in their fields. The second reason is transportation. I preferred this university because it is located not far from my house. The place, the students of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature take the most advantage of, is the library, and I am also benefiting from the university library. I am also very closely interested in the teaching staff. It's easy for me to reach my teachers whenever I have any kind of problems or anything I am not aware of. Our teachers are very interested in us, their doors are always open to us, and I can say that they respond instantly as soon as I send them an e-mail. My goal is to continue as an academic staff at the university where I am studying, namely, at Başkent University. I think that the Department of Literature is a department that needs people to study with pleasure. You cannot do this without pleasure. You also need to read books. At Başkent University there are introductory days, you can come and get more information. I have no doubt that you will prefer this university after talking to the teachers and after strolling around the campus. I certainly recommend that you come to the university’s introductory days. Başkent University is a university for you.
