Political Science and Public Administration

I'm Associate Professor Seda Bostancı. I am the Head of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University. Political Science and Public Administration Department is a department that focuses on the management of public services with a very comprehensive focus on politics and economics. The departments of political science and public administration are two different branches that are both interconnected and require specialization. Especially those who want to specialize in political science, gain a perspective that provides them with the knowledge of the course of the world, political systems, the history of countries, as well as many different social scientific conceptualizations. In the field of public administration, they also learn a great deal about the development and management of these fields, the fundamentals of legal and management sciences, in line with public bureaucracy. An advantage for our students studying these topics is that they have great job opportunities in the public sector and they have the opportunity to work in many different areas in the private sector. Since it is contemporary and innovative department, after graduation, they should carry on educating themselves, and follow new developments and the changes in legislation. Having these in mind, our goal is to train students who are able contribute to the public in matters concerning administration, able to communicate with citizens, and to develop participatory mechanisms, especially in the field of public administration. When planning our courses, we aimed to address the long-term goals of our students. In this regard, we have prepared a curriculum consisting of courses that are suitable for KPSS(Public Personnel Selection Exam) Group A staff exam, courses focused on public administration in case they want to work in public institutions in the future, courses in which they can deepen their knowledge of political science, and courses in which they can specialize in public administration and law. We have created a curriculum in which they can choose subjects that are more suitable for their areas and their own interests with elective branches. In this respect, our focus is on the professions of the future. The department of political science and public administration offers possibilities in terms of adaptation for the future. In this respect, we have diversified the elective courses of our students, which are also linked to issues such as citizenship and migration, environmental problems, urbanization and social responsibility. We aim to adapt to new technologies by focusing on new platforms, such as e-government applications. The classrooms of our department meet the capacity requirements of our students. One of the important advantages for our students is that they can easily acces the social center, dormitories and sports complexes on campus. Our students can also benefit from the computer laboratories and libraries of our school quite effectively.
Our department attaches great importance to the graduation project because this graduation degree can help our students to get to know the sector better and to write reports, conduct research and express themselves in these areas. With this approach, it is aimed to support these studies with courses related to research in social sciences. There are optional internships in our department and we recommend our students to do internships. Our teachers who have connections with the sector also help to increase internship opportunities. We have established Erasmus agreements abroad, and we aim to increase this number. At the same time, we provide our students with various internship opportunities that do not require a bilateral agreement through Erasmus to different countries. Our faculty cares very much about international symposiums and panels, and this approach comes to the forefront in the vision of our university. We have organized panels, symposiums and seminars as a department, and since some of them have been uploaded online, our students can watch these videos. National and international symposiums were organized in our faculty and our students contributed to them. In addition, the clubs of our students are very active. The political science and public administration club organizes various seminars and events related to professional expertise together with experts and academicians in the field of profession. Students of our department choose the public administration department of political science knowing what they are getting into. Our students are prepared for special exams in the fields of governorship, inspectorate and administrative judicial positions. They have both private institution exams and interview exams. In addition, KPSS(Public Personnel Selection Exam) provides employment opportunities in Group A staff positions, public institutions and especially ministries. In this regard, public institutions are an important employment area for our students. However, they can also work in banks and in the private sector, there are different job opportunities in the fields of politics depending on the interests of our students. I emphasize this quite a lot because our students can actually improve their skills for very different job alternatives when they are confident and willing. The great thing about this department is that when one is curious about it, the subjects are extremely interesting because you will be able to understand what is going on in the world and what is happening from a different academic perspective. I recommend students to improve their reading skills as well. However, it is also a profession in which communication is very important. Therefore, I recommend that they be active students so that they can expand their social circle and improve themselves in different aspects. Tekirdağ is a student-friendly city because of its small population and safe environment, it is also by the sea. The university's social and sports related activities are quite a lot. Students who have chosen this faculty can also benefit from these. They have access to social life centers, sports complexes and dormitories. There are also bus and ring services to the university. Our university organizes a series of events that focuses on contemporary subjects. Our students are involved in all these events. Having in mind all of these benefits, our university offers a campus life where students can be happy. I wish our future students all the best.
