Hello, I'm Binnur Özturk. I am a 2nd year Psychology Student at Social Sciences University of Ankara, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. Although psychology crudely translates to the science of the soul, it is a social science that examines the behavior and minds of humans and animals. Since our university was established as a research university in the field of social sciences, the Department of Psychology is a part of this faculty. In our department, a curriculum is provided for promoting subfields of Psychology such as Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial and Organizational Psychology. In addition, we have courses such as Psychopathology, Research Methods and Statistics that prepare us for the profession. The laboratory of social sciences is a research center. We have a Clinical Psychology Application and Research Center that serves this purpose. There is an internship requirement in our department and in this regard, our school also has an agreement with the Dışkapı Hospital Psychiatric Clinic. People who graduate from the psychology department receive the title of psychologist and psychologists can also work in departments such as education, health, research, academia, human resources. In other words, the fields of study of psychologists are very wide. I always talked with my guidance teacher in middle school about exam stress, and I realized that I had an interest in that profession, and when I did some research, I learned about the psychology profession. My dream was to become a Clinical Psychologist and the biggest step I took to realize this dream was to choose the Department of Psychology. One of the biggest pull factors for me was the second language education provided in our university. English is no longer the only foreign language, developing a second foreign language is more important in today’s world. That was one of the most important factors. Although Ankara is a big city, the commute here is quite easy. There are also international benefits. If a student wants to study abroad, they can take part in ERASMUS projects. The biggest advantage of our department is our academic staff because our academic staff is made up of good teachers who are experts in their fields, especially Professor Hakan Türkçapar. Me and my fellow departmental colleagues are trying to make the most of the experience and knowledge of our teachers. After graduation, I aim to get a master's degree in Clinical Psychology. Since our department provides 100% English education, I recommend that they improve their language skills. In addition, following the current articles and news about the subject will make their job easier in the department. I wish success to all the students preparing for the exam.
