New Media and Communication Department

Hello, I'm Ibrahim Tapar. I am a 2nd year student at Istanbul Topkapı University Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Department of New Media and Communication. The new Media and Communication department started providing education within our Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences in 2020. Our faculty aims to educate students with strong theoretical infrastructure and proficiency in the field of media communication applications. The faculty is currently located in the Kazlıçeşme Campus, where beautiful surroundings and history meet . One of the biggest goals of our department is to provide proper social sciences knowledge to the students who will work in the media and communication sector. For this reason, a comprehensive curriculum consisting of Economics, Political Sciences, Philosophy, Law and Sociology awaits us in the first year. In the second year, theoretical courses such as Journalism and News and Communication Ethics are provided. In addition, we take hands-on courses such as Photography and News Workshop. Since our career goals are gradually determined in the third and fourth years, we have applied and elective courses for these periods. Our elective courses include many hands-on courses such as Web Design, Graphic Design and Presenting. In our department, we have an internship program that lasts twenty work days at the end of the third grade. Our new Media and Communication Department offers a wide range of jobs to its graduates. It offers the opportunity to work in many fields such as Presenting, Journalism and Social Media Expertise as a part of Radio and Television, Advertising Agencies, News Agencies. Students who wish to do so can pursue an academic career. The reason I chose this department is based on my experiences in my formative years. At that time, I was making a compilation magazine in my own notebook with the clippings I had from the newspapers and the sections I cut from the magazines. Later, in high school, I was part of my school's short film crew. At the same time, I produced content by working as a social media manager in non-governmental organizations. I've been interested in this department my whole life. That's why I chose this department.
One of the biggest reasons I chose Istanbul Topkapı University was that it was in Istanbul. When I made my choice, I realized that many public universities are located in Anatolia. No state university in Istanbul has a New Media and Communication Department. In high school, I told myself that it is better to study at a foundation university in Istanbul than to study at a public university in Anatolia, which Professor Erkan had advised in the first place. We also know that istanbul is the capital of media. Istanbul is where I can gain experience. For this reason, I chose Istanbul Topkapı University. I benefited the most from the academic staff of our school when I was studying. We benefit from the experience of our teachers from the field and the sector. We meet famous names thanks to new media and communication chats organized by our New Media and Communication Department. Thus, we get information about the sector. From the great employment positions offered by our department, I see myself most comfortable in Journalism and Social Media Management. At the same time, I have a feeling I need to focus on academic studies. Today, if there is social media that we consider as alternative media among media platforms, among the communication departments there is The New Media and Communication section as the most alternative department. I suggest them to work in the industry in their spare time during their education. Famous people from the sector say that they started by carrying cables somewhere. We'll be happy to see you all at our university.
