Turkish Language and Literature

Hello, I am Elif Müzeyyen Ertoğrul. I am a second year student at Bandirma Onyedi Eylul University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Turkish Language and Literature. Our university was established in 2015 with the mission of becoming the "Bridge to the Future". The Department of Turkish Language and Literature started accepting students in 2018. Our department is in the central campus in Bandırma. An optional prep class is offered. Its aim is to train individuals who read, work, produce, and who are liberal, fond of culture and art. Our university is very active in terms of hosting concerts and seminars. There are courses about the development of the historic Turkic languages, classical Turkish literature, the Western influence on Turkish Literature, and Folk Literature that examines our oral and written culture in depth. In addition, we also have elective courses such as creative writing, children's literature, and various language courses. As the content of our department does not require a laboratory, we have other perks, such as the Sabahattin Zaim Center Library, which has a great number of academic materials. We do not have an internship program in Turkish Language and Literature Department. When we graduate from our department, we can take the pedagogical formation training and then take the public personnel selection exam and work in high schools and elementary schools as a permanent staff member. Likewise, we can do this in private schools and private education institutions. We can be editors for various publishing companies and newspapers. We can contribute to the various fields of the writing profession, such as writing movie and TV series scripts. Likewise, we can pursue an academic career and conduct various research and studies.
I can say that I chose the Turkish Language and Literature Department because I like things that appeal to the soul and have a dramatic aspect, and because literature tells the things I want to tell in a way that pleases the hearts. In fact, I realized my interest in literature when I thought of a poem out of the blue and wrote it. Frankly, I chose my department to feel the serenity that reading and writing poetry gives to my soul. When I researched the courses of the department later, I felt that I belonged here, so the Department of Turkish Language and Literature took its first place in my preference list. I chose Bandirma Onyedi Eylul University because it is a new generation university and I think it will contribute more to my education life. In addition, Bandırma's central location was one of the reasons why I chose this place. I can say that I have greatly benefited from the library, which contributed to my development in the department, and the student clubs that enabled me to socialize. I am very pleased with the academic staff, I witness their efforts everyday. My post-graduation goals are to study Turkish Language and Literature in depth by getting graduate education and specializing in the academic field. Our department loves students who are interested in reading and research. That's why before you come, it is important that you get used to reading a lot and try to improve your interpretation skills. I can suggest you to start preparing yourself for a very educational, entertaining, and beautiful student life. I wish good luck to the candidates who will take the university exam.
