Department of Ceramics and Glass
Greetings, my name is Elif AĞATEKİN, an Associate Professor and the head of the Department of Ceramics and Glass at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University. Our department has a long history, starting as an associate degree program in Bilecik Vocational School in 1980, then joining Anadolu University after the establishment of YÖK in 1981, and finally, in 2012, becoming part of the faculty of fine arts and design at Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University. Our mission is to provide an environment for students to develop their knowledge and skills in the field of ceramics and glass, and to train contemporary artist candidates with universal thoughts and values in art. For four years, our students follow a multidisciplinary program, including theoretical and application-oriented courses ranging from ceramic and glass technology, industrial production methods, to design, aesthetics, history, and the use of artistic expression. We have a range of facilities, including classrooms for theoretical lessons, halls for drawing and design lessons, workshops, a laboratory, a design studio, project workshops, and a gallery hall for department exhibitions and events.
Our department's curriculum allows students to specialize in the industrial, technological, or artistic field and complete a 20-day internship in both the industry and a related field in order to graduate. Furthermore, students can participate in exchange programs such as ERASMUS and Farabi exchange programs, where they can benefit from our agreements with Gepper Academy of Arts in Poland and Haci Bektashi Veli University, respectively. Our faculty members actively participate in various national and international activities, representing both themselves and our department.
After graduation, our alumni can find employment opportunities as designers and managers in the ceramic and glass industry or pursue a professional career as a freelance ceramic artist, designer, or academician. Initially, students may have difficulty adapting to the practice period, where they have to work with mud and plaster, but our teachers, who are experienced in this process, provide the necessary support and guidance to help them adjust.
To potential candidates, I would advise them to choose our department if they enjoy doing things with their hands, are patient, and want to explore their creativity through the process of working with mud. Our university provides a supportive environment for students to develop and organize their own activities, and we look forward to welcoming you to Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Ceramics and Glass Department. Best of luck to all students who will be taking the university entrance exam.
