Department of Tourism Guidance
Hello. My name is Fatma YILMAZ, and I am studying Tourism Guidance at Balıkesir University's Faculty of Tourism. The Tourism Guidance department is dedicated to training individuals to become skilled tourism guides, capable of introducing and showcasing their country's historical, cultural, and natural treasures to visitors from around the world. Our curriculum primarily focuses on language classes, with an emphasis on English. Additionally, German and Russian courses are offered as optional subjects. In addition to language studies, we also have specialized departmental courses such as Greek mythology, Anatolian civilizations, art history, iconography, history of religions, geography, ancient settlements, specialization in tourist guidance and museums in Turkey.
Our labs and workshops serve as practical training grounds for us, and throughout the year, our instructors organize excursions that are both enjoyable and educational. As part of our program, we are required to complete a 90-day internship, which allows us to gain hands-on experience in various tourism-related businesses, including travel agencies and accommodation establishments. Furthermore, during our final year, we are expected to undertake a graduation thesis as a culminating project.
Once we obtain our work cards, we have the opportunity to practice the profession of a tourist guide in a professional capacity. Additionally, employment prospects can be found in travel agencies, accommodation providers, and airline companies. I chose the tourism guidance department because I have a passion for travel, research, reading, and acquiring new knowledge, both about my own country and other nations. The reason I specifically chose Balıkesir University's Faculty of Tourism is because it is a well-established institution with highly qualified teaching staff and an extensive range of course offerings. We greatly value the department's organized trips and seminars, where graduates from our program come to share their experiences and knowledge.
After obtaining my work card, my goal is to work as a professional tourist guide and continue my academic career. For prospective students considering the tourism guidance department, I highly recommend focusing on foreign language education and developing an understanding of our country's historical, cultural, and natural treasures. I wish the best of luck to all those who will be taking the university entrance exam. We eagerly await your arrival at Balıkesir University's Faculty of Tourism.
