Department of Music Education

I am Işınsu Sabancı, a 26-year-old senior student at Necatibey Faculty of Education. I am pursuing my studies in the field of music teaching. Our department was established in 2022, and its building is located in the Necatibey Education Faculty Campus in the district center of Altıeylül. Our mission is to educate individuals who are dedicated to their field, constantly seek knowledge, and possess strong artistic values to become music teachers. We also aim to foster the artistic understanding of society. Currently, our department has 7 lecturers, 2 instructors, and 2 research assistants. The duration of our undergraduate program is 4 years, and we also offer training at the master's and doctoral levels. Admission to the department is based on a special talent exam conducted after the general exam administered by ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center). The curriculum includes music theory, instrument training, voice training, as well as teaching and general education courses. Additionally, we have various ensembles, such as the orchestra, children's choir, polyphonic choir, Turkish folk music choir, and Turkish classical music choir, which have made significant contributions to the cultural scene in Balıkesir.Our main building consists of three floors and houses the offices of lecturers, the library, study rooms, and classrooms for students. The music classrooms are equipped with pianos, music stands, and various instruments. In the final year of our undergraduate program, students are required to complete an internship. This internship involves teaching practices at designated schools. After graduation, a bachelor's degree is required to work in private education institutions or public schools, as well as to establish or work in music education institutions. I chose to pursue music teaching due to my early interest in music. Necatibey Faculty of Education has a rich history, and it is known for producing notable individuals such as Sabahattin Ali and Halil İnalcık. This influenced my decision to study here. Through collaborations with the Band Association, we have participated in numerous events, gaining experience on various stages and with different musical instruments. After completing my studies in this department, I am considering pursuing a master's degree. Individuals who choose this department should have a genuine passion for music and the arts, as well as a love for the teaching profession and patience. Additionally, candidates with musical talent should have a desire to continuously improve themselves. I wish success to all candidates preparing for the university entrance exam.
