Political Science and International Relations Department

Hello friends. My name is Hasan Barit. I am a Freshman at Istanbul 29 Mayis University in the political science and international relations department. I am going to give you some information about the Department of political science and international relations. The purpose of this department is primarily to train people who know what is happening in politics. Our school offers us a lot of different courses. They want to educate you in 2 languages. For example, your English is already at the level of your native language after the Prep training. According to several universities in language development, after we receive the bilingual education then we are able to excel in our 3rd and 4th year. We take courses such as Law, sociology, history, philosophy, lessons linked to politics in a wide range of fields. Things we learned in the course of our writing assignments increases our chance to pass in many ways. In addition, because of the small class settings at our university we can have the opportunity to communicate comfortably with the teachers and that is a very good opportunity for us. The library is fantastic. You can find a lot of resources in it. There are many books in English and Turkish. You could even have the chance to bring in another book. We have the additional Isham library. This library is one of the few specialized library and has many sources from Chinese, Arabic, Hebrew and French. In particular, it specializes in the middle east area. There's also a variety of sources and research databases, you can do research in many areas thanks to the encyclopedia and learn all about the religion of Islam. Our research is very easy at the library. Also very valuable is our own library of academics where they have a very rich variety and number of books. We are constantly receiving new books and resources. I am so happy with our library. When we graduate from the department first KPSS (Public Personnel Selection Examination) we can work in the state or be an academician. In addition to that we have a chance to work in international organizations. These are the 3 main areas of work. But, you can go to so many different areas if you speak English. For example, some of our friends said that they wanted to do translation. When we say politics is a very broad field, we mean you can even go into economics. In fact, you can even get a master's degree in Law. So you know, when you enter a field where you can change your mind without stopping. An area at the junction of different disciplines. That's why I chose the politics section. As I said, Sociology, Law, you can master a section which contains all of the social sciences such as history. I thought I could move in this chapter. I want to be an academic. I love to read and I can improve myself by reading. That's why I'm studying Political Science and International Relations. Our library is certainly very important. The Isham library is already one of the most important libraries in the world and in Turkey. We have a very good academic staff and language facilities. When it comes to language possibilities, as I said, we receive a very good preparation for the English language instruction in the third and fourth year.. If we want we can even learn new languages with the AGEP courses at the school. The school supports Latin, ancient Yununca, French and Russian. There are many opportunities to get scholarships. I believe it is a very good school to improve yourself. That's why I chose this university. The mostly benefit from the library. The library is really good. If you ask why, I explained already. We have many academic libraries as well as the Isham library, a place that hosts Turkey's most well-known professor. So we benefit from one of the best libraries. We attend seminars as a part of cultural activities. We also have seminars in social responsibility projects. For example, last week there was a seminar on ecology and the seminars have Academics from other universities. This provides us with learning of many different things from the many Academics.

As a result, every person has a unique perspective on the information we have received from them, and that's why I think it's very precious. Certainly in terms of language and in the academic sense, because as I said, a good level of people who have completed the preparatory program are sent to England. I was one of them. I was sent to England. This gave me the opportunity to go abroad for the first time. As I said before, my English at the moment is at a very good level. I was unable to even say my name in English until two years ago. But now I can read and write articles. The school has provided me with so much that I will never be without a job opportunity. The School delivered so much in the academic sense of language. After graduation, I plan become an Academician. İstanbul 29 Mayıs University is an excellent school. You will develop yourself as much as you can. You should read all their books. As I have already said, you have a wide range of books to read. This would be related to the History of philosophy and politics, but as I said you must have knowledge on these subjects. Already all our teachers often emphasize this. You can not be a good political scientist without your knowledge in geography and the history of the area. Because when we look at the case of Israel and Palestine, if we don't know a little something about that area, if we don't know, we can’t make a comment about this field. I can give advice like that.
