Pathology Laboratory Techniques Programme
My name is Şevval Melek and I am a 2nd year student at the Ufuk University Vocational School of Health Services in the Pathology Laboratory Techniques Programme. The programme began training students as an associate degree program in Ufuk University, Vocational School of Health Services on Balgat Campus in 2014. The aim of the Pathology Laboratory Techniques Programme is to develop pathology laboratory technicians who have the ability of solving problems in the application of current techniques, while following technological developments, and training people who can perform all the technical services until the tissue and body fluids are ready for microscopic examination in pathology and histology laboratories. In addition to vocational courses such as Anatomy, Histology, General Histotechnology, Macroscopy and Dissection, courses such as Terminology and Laboratory Safety are also given. The Ufuk University Pathology Laboratory Techniques Programme utilises the Rıdvan Ege Hospital Pathology Laboratory and we also have a student pathology laboratory. After taking the theoretical courses in the Pathology Laboratory Techniques Programme, the application courses are carried out in the necessary pathology laboratory. Then, at the end of the first class, we have a 30 working-day summer internship. We are able to do summer internships in health institutions and institutions with pathology and histology laboratories. In addition, students who want to undertake an internship within the university have the opportunity to complete one at the Dr. Rıdvan Ege Hospital Pathology Laboratory. We have the opportunity to work in special pathology laboratories, molecular pathology laboratories, and forensic medicine pathology laboratories. In recent years, increased cancer and stem cell therapies have caught my attention. Then I researched this department and I chose the Pathology Laboratory Techniques Programme because I wanted to be more useful to humanity due to the increasing demand for pathologists. There are many laboratories in our school and we students use these laboratories very often. In addition, our hospital is on the Balgat Campus, so I use these facilities very often. That's why I chose Ufuk University. After graduating from the programme, I want to work in the pathology and histology laboratories of state or private hospitals. My recommendation to students who might choose Ufuk University is this—because our hospital and school are intertwined, we can receive practical training very easily, hence they should choose our university. I wish success to those friends who taking the entrance exam.
