Medical Laboratory Techniques Program
Hello, I am Elanur Seven. I am a lecturer of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Programme of Yuksek Ihtisas University. The importance of health services was highlighted once again with the coronavirus epidemic that caused a great crisis all over the world. In this context, early diagnosis and early treatment in pandemics and other diseases are of vital importance. Medical laboratory technicians, who make medical analyses upon the request and suggestion of physicians in laboratories, are among the most important members of the health services. In this context, we are training students to have a sound knowledge of medical laboratory infrastructures required by modern medicine, who have strong communication skills, who are prone to group work, who are solution-oriented and who have ethical values. At the same time, in order to offer job opportunities to students, we provide training in the Medical Laboratory Techniques Programme in the Vocational School of Health Services of Yuksek Ihtisas University, Bağlum Campus. The courses given in our programme are general Chemistry and General Biology lessons which are included in the curriculum within the scope of fundamental sciences. In addition to these, in order to create a medical infrastructure, fundamental medical sciences courses such as Microbiology, Biochemistry and Haematology are also included in our curriculum. There are well-equipped laboratories at our university that the students of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Programme can use. Our students also receive training in the laboratories of the Faculty of Medicine. Students studying in the Medical Laboratory Techniques Programme graduate with an associate degree and receive the title of Medical Laboratory Technician after two years of education. After taking fundamental science courses for one year, students are directed towards compulsory internship programmes at the end of the year. In the following year, so in their second year, students are once again directed to internship programmes in the hospitals we have contracts with, so that they can gain professional experience. Graduates of the university receive the title of Medical Laboratory Technician and can work in private and state hospitals, health centres, private clinics and laboratories, in the food industry sector, along with research laboratories and centres. Graduates of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Programme are in great demand due to a huge deficit in this area. The reason for this deficit is the increasing number of hospitals, the availability of new tests, and the increasing number of these tests. This allows our students to have the opportunity to find jobs very quickly after graduation. For these reasons, students prefer our programme more and more every year. Located in the capital city of Ankara, Yuksek Ihtisas University offers education in the field of health sciences with the slogan "University of Common Mind". At our university, students are educated by qualified academic staff members who will happily share their experience and knowledge with them surrounded by our well-equipped physical infrastructure, classrooms and state of the art laboratories. In addition to these opportunities, Yuksek Ihtisas University directs its students to the hospitals it has agreements with so that they have the chance to gain professional experience before they graduate. We would like to make the following suggestions to students who are planning on choosing our programme: in addition to doing the compulsory internships we arrange for them; they should also register for the internship programmes in our contracted hospitals and laboratories. If students take part in training programmes that give certification, they will enhance their skills and knowledge. Thus, they will increase their chances of finding a job when they begin their career. I wish the best of luck to the candidates of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Programme, under the Vocational School of Health Sciences of Yuksek Ihtisas University.
