Physical Education and Sports Teaching
I am Professor Nevzat Mirzeoğlu. I am the Head of Physical Education and Sports Teaching Department. The Physical Education and Sports Teaching department provides a standard program in Turkey. The essence of this program is to train teachers who will work in both public and private institutions. Courses are divided into 3 basic groups in our program. These are general culture, teaching profession formation and field knowledge. This program is a joint program carried out in all universities in Turkey, as the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has standardized teaching programs. However, our department's application-oriented studies differ from other programs. There are 3 professors, a doctor lecturer, 3 research assistants and 3 lecturers in our department. In this regard, the department is above average in terms of the number of people working in the faculty. In this Lecturers in other units of the faculty also support the courses in our department. All sports facilities, laboratories, open and closed areas owned by our faculty are also used for the lectures provided in our department. At the same time, we conduct important studies with our stakeholders as we train teachers for the Ministry of National Education (MEB) within this framework. In order to become teachers, our students carry out teaching practice studies as a part of a cooperation with the Ministry of National Education. Students go to primary, secondary schools and high school affiliated to the ministry on certain days of the week and for a number of hours for a semester to practice. Thus, they prepare themselves to become teachers.
Our graduates can work in public and private schools affiliated to MEB (Ministry of National Education). They can be appointed to public positions through the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS). At the same time, they can find job opportunities in the private sector as coaches, sports leaders, or in the fields they train themselves. Candidates who will choose the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching have the chance to benefit from the practice-based education we have implemented here with a different vision. As a part of our cooperation with our stakeholders, we try to train our students by providing them with the opportunity to practice in the field. We provide opportunities to practice both in the private sector, in public institutions, in institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, and in schools. Thus, they get the chance to develop themselves with more experience. In addition, they have the opportunity to find a job in the institutions and organizations they practice at. Sakarya University of Applied Sciences has important advantages both in terms of transportation, and location, as it is located between metropolitan cities. At the same time, the university’s educational investments in Sakarya have very important advantages for our students. Sakarya has very important advantages especially in terms of accommodation and dormitory facilities. On the other hand, Sakarya provides an important advantage in terms of employment for students. In this respect, I can say that Sakarya University of Applied Sciences provides significant advantages. While I wish success to all candidates who will take the university exam, I also believe that the students who will choose us will find important opportunities in terms of self-realization, self-expression, participation in management and various career opportunities.
