Sports Coaching Education

My name is Ertuğrul Gelen. I am the Head of the Department of Sports Coaching Education in the Faculty of Sports Sciences, at Sakarya University of Applied Sciences. Sports Coaching Education Department is a department that offers undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degrees. Our department was established in 2001 and currently provides training in 17 different sports branches. Students who will choose our department have to be athletes for at least 3 years in one of the 17 branches we teach. We accept students to our school by evaluating the scores they got from the university exam and their athlete's CVs. Students who qualify to study in our department take a number of theoretical and applied courses to improve their professional careers. They take some theoretical courses such as anatomy, physiology and biomechanics. In addition to these, we have some practical lessons such as athletics, swimming, volleyball, basketball and football. In addition to these, we also have internship opportunities and project based courses. We have very modern, very sportive tests that our students can use. Apart from that, we also have an athlete performance laboratory in our department for students to use both in courses and to analyze their performances. Inside this lab are exercise, sports psychology and biomechanics research groups. These groups also analyze the performance of athletes and provide them consultancy services. Especially when our students complete their 3rd grade, they go to an internship that we call summer internship and practice there. Apart from these, we have 7+1 models. It is a workplace experience similar to an internship. In accordance with the general policy of our university, our students receive theoretical and practical education with us for 7 semesters. After that, they go to professional clubs in their field for 1 semester and have the opportunity to experience with professional coaches. As the Sports Coaching Education Department, we offer student exchange programs such as Erasmus, Mevlana and Farabi for our students. We have students in your department who are interested in academic studies. Especially with the graduation projects, very good products come out here. We go to both science congresses and student congresses to evaluate these products and introduce them to other scientists. Our Sports Coaching Education Department students graduate as coaches when they graduate. They have a coaching certificate belonging to the branch in which they enter the school. When our students graduate, they can work as coaches in amateur and professional teams, national teams or private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. As the coaching training department, we demonstrate a quality-oriented education approach. Therefore, when our students graduate from here, they will graduate with world-class knowledge. In Sakarya province there is a total of 5 different Turkey Olympic Preparation Center that are available. Therefore, it seems that it is very advantageous for national athletes to choose this place. Sakarya province has an important location in the Marmara Region. Especially, it is in the middle of places like Istanbul and Ankara, which we define as big cities. It is very convenient for our students who will come to our city from a different city, it has highly developed railways and highways. Sakarya is a very green region, and in terms of nature we are in a really good region. We are at a very advantageous point especially for friends who love nature sports. The cultural structure of the city and its social structure are very convenient for our fellow students. We will be happy to see you at our university. Let's share these beauties together. See you.
