Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Hello, my name is Abdullah Balcı. I have been working as a research assistant at Yalova University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering since 2016. Our department was established in 2014. It includes 2 professors, 1 associate professor, 5 doctoral faculty members and 3 research assistants who are experts in the field of electrical and electronics discipline. Each year, a quota of 50 people is allocated in our department by YÖK. In the undergraduate program of our department, courses are given in two main categories. The first category includes basic engineering courses with a focus on mathematics and physics, while the latter includes specialization courses. These specialization courses focus on the fields such as circuit theory, electronics, communication, signal processing, biomedicine, and electrical machinery. While basic engineering courses are offered in the first two years of the undergraduate program, students who want to specialize in a certain field in the 3rd and 4th grades have a wide range of technical elective courses. Laboratory training has an important role in engineering. In our department, there are 5 different laboratories for undergraduate students. These laboratories are circuit analysis, basic electronics, numerical design, microprocessors and computer laboratories. In addition, power electronics and electrical machinery laboratories are at the stage of establishment at the moment. We will have a total of 7 laboratories when these become operational in 2021. An internship in engineering is an essential part. Our students work in the industry as interns for 45 working days during the summer. Since our university is located in the Marmara Region, students can find many internship opportunities in important companies. Also, successful students can find internship opportunities that are provided by the collaborations between our university and the sector. Students prepare a graduation project during the both semesters of the 4th grade. These graduation projects are evaluated by the jury at the end of the semester. One of the requirements for the graduation is a satisfactory graduation project. In addition, just as the internship experience, students can include graduation projects in their CVs which would be beneficial in their job-finding processes. Our students can benefit from the Erasmus program for 1 semester. Graduates of our department can work in a wide range positions at R&D (research-development), production and marketing departments in various sectors, which include electrical and electronics engineering sub-branches, such as Telecommunications, Radio-Television, Finance, health, automation and biomedicine. I believe that entrepreneurial, young-spirited students who can make contributions to technological developments, who adopt lifelong learning principles, produce innovative solutions to the problems they encounter, and are constantly curious and follow this curiosity, will be successful both during their education and while they pursue their careers. Our university is located in the Marmara Region, where the industry is the most developed in Turkey. Therefore, our university has an important role in the field of engineering in the Marmara Region. Both the Organized Industrial Zone established in Yalova and the Technopark established in our university will be beneficial for our students both during their education and in finding a job after graduation. In addition, there are lots of internship opportunities, as I mentioned before. Yalova University is also a very rich university in terms of student communities. There are many student communities related to electrical and electronic engineering. By participating in the events and activities organized by these societies, students will develop their teamwork and leadership skills and expand their networks. There are many social activities that are held in Yalova. Students can participate in concerts, exhibitions, theaters and similar artistic events organized in Yalova and spend their time in the surrounding provinces. If you want to pursue a career in engineering, Yalova University Electrical-Electronics Engineering will make a great contribution to you on this path. I wish you success in your exams.
