Mechanical Engineering
Hello, I am Associate Professor Ümit Ünver. I am a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. I am also an advisor to the rector. At the same time, I am the coordinator of the board of founders of Yalova University Technopark. Besides all these, I am a member of Zerobuild, zero energy buildings forum. In addition to these, I carried out the university-industry cooperation coordinatorship between 2011 and 2020. Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the basic engineering branches, along with electrical-electronics and civil engineering. Essentially, it is the basic science of all other engineering branches. We can say that many engineering branches such as Automotive, Aircraft, Ship, Textile, Materials and the Mechatronics Engineering departments are emerged from the Mechanical Engineering discipline. In fact, the industrial engineering department is one of the engineering branches separated from the Mechanical Engineering Department. When we look at it from this point of view, we can say that it is the basis of all other engineering branches. In general, the courses given consist of engineering mechanics, which is a combination of statics and dynamics courses, in other words, Newton's basic laws. We explain f=m.a there. Here, too, we describe the balance of forces and the effect on objects. Then the Strength course is given. With the strength course, subjects such as how resistant the parts of all machines and mechanisms should be against the applied force, what the material should be, and what thickness they should be are researched. After that, the Zoning Procedures course is given. In the Zoning Procedures course, we concentrate on the materials, products and almost everything you see when you look around in terms of their production. After that, in the machine elements course, you will get to know the machine and mechanism elements. In addition, in the thermodynamics and energy section, we study the reconciliation of all these forces and strength relations with energy or the coupling of energy with force and strength in courses such as fluid mechanics and heat transfer under the roof of thermodynamics. Thus, we get down to the basis of all engineering. For now, we are using the strong infrastructure of Yalova University Engineering Faculty. However, our plans and programs continue in order to develop later and develop the infrastructure of our department further. Let me tell you about our plans. We, as Yalova University, made an agreement with Yalova İMES Organized Industrial Zone and put this agreement in writing with a protocol. Accordingly, İMES Organized Industrial Zone will construct the Mechanical Engineering Department building within the OIZ and we will start education and training within the OIZ after next year. This means that our Mechanical Engineering Department will conduct training within the machinery specialization within the OIZ. It's like being an apple worm who lives in an apple. Think about it, the Mechanical Engineering Department will continue its education in hundreds of machinery specialized factories. I would like to proudly say that I am the owner of this idea.
We commenced our efforts for the Erasmus program, and even made our first agreement. We are starting this program slowly as we are a new department. However, starting from this year, our students will be able to benefit from the Erasmus program and go abroad. As a department, we support Zerobuild, the zero-energy building forum. As you know, the European Union has decided that all buildings should be zero-energy buildings by 2050. So, what does this mean? In other words, we, as Turkey, will take a step towards zero energy buildings in the coming years by adapting to the European Union. So, what is the Zerobuild Forum? What is its job? It promotes zero-energy buildings in our country by inviting experts in this field in Turkey and in the world. The program started last year to make a small start, but it has grown into a huge organization with 36 countries, 136 participants and 48 sessions. It will be further developed this year. From next year, this organization will continue with much wider and worldwide participation. As Yalova University Mechanical Engineering Department, we will support this organization. I think the luckiest department after graduation is the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Because, from a luxury hotel operating in the service sector to the food sector or the pharmaceutical industry, or from the automotive sector to the aerospace industry, Mechanical Engineering students can find jobs in almost all sectors. I recommend the candidates who will prefer the department to choose the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Yalova University. The two of the most important opportunities offered by our university are the housing, and the job prospects after graduation. In terms of accommodation, a very nice dormitory is being built right next to our campus. Thus, I think that the accommodation problem of our students will mostly be solved. In addition, Yalova is an extremely advantageous city for students. I would also recommend Yalova in this respect. It is a city that is easy to live in. As for finding a job, I can say this: You will study in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. You will receive training in hundreds of factories in the Organized Industrial Zone. You will be in contact with each of these factories. Therefore, I can say that you are guaranteed to find a job after graduation. I wish success to the candidates who will prefer Yalova University Mechanical Engineering Department.
