English Language and Literature

I'm Tuğba Görmez, a third year student at the Department of English Language and Literature. Our department is located in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in the Taşlıçiftlik Campus. The aim of our department is to provide an intellectual perspective to students who are interested in foreign languages and love to read and research. In our department, our courses are divided into 4 groups, which are English literature, Novel, Poetry, Theater and Story. We also have courses on British culture and history. In addition, every student has the right to receive a second foreign language education in German or French. We also have an Applied Linguistics course on teaching English as a second foreign language, covering language teaching methods, second language learning and language teaching methodology. In addition, we also have the Online Student Exchange program, which our department runs in partnership with Thailand, and the Guest Scholar program where foreign academics teach. There are 2 computer labs in our faculty. We use these laboratories for our courses. Our graduates can work as foreign language teachers in public or private schools, as well as academics at private or state universities. In addition to working as writers, editors and translators, our graduates can also work in the tourism sector, foreign relations of ministries and units related to the European Union, banks and private or state media organizations. I chose this department because I am interested in foreign languages, cultures and literature. The reason why I chose Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University is that it is a successful university. In our department, there are academicians who have received education from the best universities in Turkey and the best universities in the world. When I graduate, I want to gain more knowledge on the field of English literature and become an academician. Our department has Erasmus agreements with many European countries. I also benefited from this program and went to Poland. I recommend students who will choose our department to take advantage of this program. There is a LÖSEV Benefit Club that is active in our department and was founded by our department's students. Students who come here can join this club. We have a library and social facilities on our university campus. I suggest you take advantage of them. We will be glad to see you among us. I wish good luck to those who will take the exam.
