Physical Education and Sports Teaching for Disabled People
I would like to start by saying hello to prospective students who want to choose our university. My name is Selim Karadağ. I am studying at Inonu University Faculty of Sports Sciences, Department of Physical Education and Sports on Disabilities. I'm also the amputee national team goalkeeper and I'm working as a coach. I am also very happy to choose this department in order to improve myself. Our department was founded in 2011. The aim of our department is to provide necessary and scientific education to people with disabilities in a more logical and healthier way. Our department established for this purpose, and many of our students graduate every year and serve people with disabilities. Since the curriculum is common in the Faculty of Sports Sciences, our courses are generally the same. But of course, our department is different. We have separate internships and courses related to many different disability groups such as vision, hearing and walking. Our school has many gyms on site. We have many areas for tennis courts, indoor gyms, swimming pools, carpet field and other sports activities. Unlike other departments, we have to work with special individuals, so we go to the places where our professors assign us outside of school and meet with individuals with special needs and offer them the opportunity to play sports. So, we help them develop personally. In our department, we receive internships in 2 semesters in 4th grade and we do these internships in schools and special education institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education (MEB). There are many business sectors where we can work after graduating from our department. We can work as teachers in public and private schools affiliated with Ministry of National Education (MEB). We can also train athletes who will represent our country as personal trainers. We can find jobs in municipalities and many other places. The primary reason I prefer my department is because I work for the amputee football national team, so I want to improve myself in my field. After all, I used my preference in this direction to get to know all the disability groups in social life and to do useful work for them and my country. The biggest reason why I prefer Inonu University is that our department was first established at this university. I think my department is already number one in the field. Although other universities has founded similar departments afterwards, since Inonu University is the leading university in this regard, I said why not take part in the pioneering department and I found myself in here. My goal after graduation is to do good work in my field and to participate in projects that will contribute to disabled individuals who make up approximately 10% of the citizens of our country and to train good athletes in our country with these projects; thus representing our country around the world. Dear students who would prefer İnönü University, my first advice is that you should come to this department willingly and lovingly. Because what we do is here is an emotional endeavor. Every graduate of this department should perform well, which will contribute to people with disabilities in our country. It’s a privilege to be a part of İnönü University. I wish all the students good luck in their exams.
