Department of American Culture and Literature

Hello, I am Aihan Gol. I am studying at Baskent University in the department of American Culture and Literature. In the department, we are covering the literature and culture of America. However, it is necessary not to pass just by saying American culture and literature: because so many things are interconnected. Actually, you can recognize yourself and your own personality by learning about different culture and community. Our department begins with a skills course in the first grade. After the second grade, the courses divided generally into two: cultural and literary courses. These are of course related to each other. Mostly we are reading and writing on these readings. These articles can be critical articles, analysis articles, or our own critical articles. Normally, the internship is not compulsory, but if you want to study the pedagogical formation, you are studying one semester. In the second semester, you are doing an internship with the pedagogical formation education and the university is helping you. When you graduate, there is no requirement such as a graduation thesis. You can graduate from our department if you pass with a good average. You can be a teacher, if you graduated from the department and received the pedagogical formation. You can work as an editor in an international journal and publication. Last year our graduated student came to our university, he was working at the National Agency. You can also advance in this field if you like. After graduating, because my goal is to advance in the academic field, my highest goal is to become a professor. Hello guys, I am Gulten Tasgyn. I am a second year student in the Department of American Culture and Literature. I chose this department because I always wanted to study literature. I chose this department because this department concentrated on the broader topics in the field of literature. First, the academic staff attracted me a lot, because I have searched that each professor has severally experiences and articles in their own field. I thought I could get a quality education. In addition, the other issue that caught my attention was the class quotas. Because we are taking courses in a maximum of thirty people classrooms. This also was another attractive feature. The conferences, that I have benefited the most. Once every Thursday we have conferences, especially this year - this is semester. We also have a drama club, which allows us to get socialized. In some periods, we organize the theater. Again, this allows us to spend the univesity life in an active way. I think to be an academician after graduation. I want to concentrate more in the field of literature. My advices for those who prefer American Culture and Literature Department at Baskent University: First of all, it is very comfortable in terms of quota. Our courses are held in the classes, maximum, of thirty people. It helps us to understand these lectures very well. Besides, our professors know us; they can be more involved with us. In addition, we have an international conference every two years. We also have the chance to take part in these conferences. This also makes us more active. For these reasons, you can easily choose American Culture and Literature Department at Baskent University.
