Associate Program of Paramedic Studies
Hello everyone my name is Kasım Emek. I am a second-year student in Cappadocia Vocational College’s Associate Program of Paramedic Studies. I will briefly tell you about what we do in our department. Students that enter this department will graduate as paramedics. These paramedic service duties can include working ambulances, working in different emergency services or working on specially-equipped teams. The Paramedic Studies Program’s goal is to ensure that the vital functions of a patient continue in the process from the intended event site to the hospital. During this time, we can start treatment for a patient if it seems necessary. Our main goal is not to cure or fix the problem, but to prevent things from getting worse in any given situation. These are the duties of the First Aid and Emergency technician. In general, we take our basic courses in the first year. We take courses like Anatomy, Pharmacology, Physiology, Medical Ethics (Deontology) and Behavioral Sciences. We learn how to communicate with a patient and we learn about the general anatomy and physiology of the human body. We also learn about pharmaceuticals. In general, this is what our first year is like. In our second year, we learn about ambulances. In our laboratories, we learn about how to intervene with a patient in different scenarios. We have our first aid and emergency labs in our school. This includes are breathing and circulatory support program in first aid and emergency care. The support we provide to maintain a patient's life are taught in these laboratories. We also have an ambulance course. In this ambulance course, we learn about how to behave in an ambulance and learn how to use the ambulance more efficiently. Receiving our education inside an ambulance is a great advantage for us while learning the emergency services field. In the second semester of our first year, we have a preparation period where we focus on studying and getting used to a hospital environment. The hospital tells us what to expect. At the hospital, we learn about the authorization we have and learn how we should communicate with a patient. Then, there is a summer internship that we must completer between our first year and second year. This is a great advantage for us because our main occupational field takes on an ambulance. After finishing our second year, we complete our internship. So we have one internship during the year and two summer internships.
We do not have a graduation project. Instead of a graduation project, we have a final internship. After school is over, every student has to do an internship for a month in the summer. Then, we can finish our school. After graduating, we can work in 112 Emergency Stations, Emergency Departments of Hospitals, on special teams or in private ambulance companies. We can build our own private ambulance company. We can complete this two-year program and then take the DGS, which is the Vertical Transfer Examination. We can complete the four-year program in Disaster Management. After finishing from the Disaster Management Department, we can work in AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management). Thanks to the Vertical Transfer Examination, we can study for two more years and graduate. I graduated from a Vocational College. I was an emergency technician. The task of an emergency medical technician is much more limited. I wanted more authority and responsibility. I thought this department was right for me. The reason I chose this department is that it is fun. I chose this program because I like to deal with these types of events and help others cope with their difficulties. I prefer Cappadocia University because it is very convenient and easy for us to communicate with our instructors. This university has provided me with many opportunities both socially and educationally. The possibility of doing an internship in a 112 emergency station was a great advantage for us. I have benefited from the lessons that we have been taught in our labs. I want to start working in this profession first thing after I graduate. I want to become a part of a private rescue team like the UMKE, which is the National Medical Rescue Team. I want to be competent and well-qualified to work in this profession. I want to train other people as well or teach in different universities. I have some suggestions to any friends who want to choose this program: If they believe that this profession could be really good for them, then I think they should choose it. Because we save lives, this is a very serious job. If they have the ability to make quick decisions, and if they are good at concentrating, I would suggest that they choose this field. I would suggest this university for its social environment. If you like to communicate with others, if you like sports activities, and if you like Cappadocia University, this will be your best choice. I wish all of the best and especially to those that will choose this university.
