Department of Political Science and Public Administration

Hi, I'm Elif Nur Timur. I am a fourth-year student at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration. Although our department was initially established to train personnel for public institutions and organizations, it is currently training individuals with national values, qualified for diplomacy, think tanks and the private sector. In addition to the courses in Political Science, Economics, History, Social Sciences, Turkish Political Life, International Communication Theories, there are more than forty elective courses. Thanks to the elective courses, our friends who want to specialize in the academic field, can train themselves in the fields they want. We carry out diplomacy simulation in our faculty and department. In this way, together with our friends, we can fulfill identical simulations of the trainings we take in the courses and the state institutions whose congresses we go to, the Court of Exchequer, the Council of State and ministries within our university. This provides us advantage both in academic terms and in the areas in which we study, to better understand and acquire ministries, state ministers and legal advisers and improve ourselves in these areas in the future. There are more than fifty thousand Turkish, English and German resources in our library within our university in Esenboğa. Thanks to our foreign language education, we manage how to access the international resources and the articles we need. Since our language of instruction is English, we can read and understand papers and books published in English in order to improve ourselves. In addition, we can reserve our books online through YORDAM, an online platform, at our university. We can go and get them any time, and we can extend the period of books we receive without ever coming to school. After graduating from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, we are able to develop ourselves mainly in three areas. One of them is the academic field that our university gives great value to. By taking ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam), we can start our master's degree and improve ourselves in academic field as a research assistant at a university we want. Secondly, we can easily find jobs in public institutions, the Constitutional Court, the Court of Exchequer, the Council of State, and ministries. The third is the private sector. Our friends who want to improve themselves in the private sector, can easily find jobs thanks to the education they receive. The main reason for choosing the Department of Political Science and Public Administration is that I can take both political science and public administration in a single program. I also preferred because of our faculty and university. The main reason why I prefer Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University is that the language of instruction is hundred percent English and it provides this as a state university. The preparation programs are very high quality and so successful. At the same time, our academic staff consists of professors and research assistants who have studied in very good places abroad. That's why I chose this university. The library of our university provides numerous opportunities which I often use when I study in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration. One of the activities that I most benefited from was the one-to-one contact with our academics, instructors and dean with the tea hours after working in the library. After graduation, with the inspiration of my instructors, I want to be an academic. Because I think that we have received a very well-equipped academic education. I am encouraged by the fact that our language of instruction is English and that our diploma has international validity. I want to complete my master's degree abroad and then return to my country to serve. I would like to say to my friends who will prefer Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University: During the preparation process, they will encounter a very entertaining environment and they will develop their language very well with this environment. They will also have friends from around the world thanks to international students. They're very lucky. I want them all to keep up with this environment when they get here. I wish you success already.
