Department of International Trade and Business Administration

Hello, this is Ümran Haltaş. I am a third-year student in the Department of International Trade and Business Administration at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University. Our department was established to train self-confident managerial personnel in order to maintain the import-export balance throughout the country. In fact, we take a large variety of courses. Law, Economics, Business are among the essential courses. But we also have a wide range of courses in the social sciences such as Sociology and Psychology. Students in our department must either do internships or write term projects in order to graduate. They graduate as qualified people with the ability to find jobs both in the public and private sectors. We have the opportunity to find jobs in public sector, consulates and in customs. In the private sector, we are able to work as an executive in every company that deals with import-export and has international connections. In fact, the basis of our department is to train senior managers. For our careers, depending on the exams we give, we are able to work as experts in the field. The reason I chose my department, actually, I was very undecided during the period I had to choose. I couldn't really see myself in a particular profession; for example, if you want to be an engineer, you study engineering. I was looking at myself with the belief that I could be successful in areas of marketing, business, human resources, etc. So I decided to choose a broader area of business and I thought that international trade and business suits me. One of the main reasons I chose this school was its academic staff. The teachers in our academic staff body are very valuable teachers who have completed their undergraduate, graduate or doctorate degrees abroad. Another reason I chose this department was because it is 100% in English. Because I don't think that studying an internationally-pertinent subject in Turkish will have a lot of benefits. There are many student-oriented facilities in our school but the most decisive factor for me was that our academic staff were successful and well-known people. For example, in one of our second year classes, our instructor invited a different speaker for the class every week and we had the opportunity to have one-to-one exchange with CEOs and executives of various companies. In this way, we had the chance to expand our network even before getting into professional life. That was a big advantage for me. After graduating from the department, I want to pursue graduate studies. I would also like to advance in the area of tourism, which is my personal interest. I want to work in one of Turkey's leading tourism companies within this professional area. I think the biggest advantage of our university is that most of the departments are 100% in English. In addition, in terms of academic staff, not only in our department, but in all departments of our school, we have very valuable teachers. Moreover, our school is really rich and new in terms of library facilities and social activities. I can say that we can see the benefits of being newly established very well. At this time, there are no opportunities that we cannot access.
