Department of Psychology

I’m Rabia Karaçavuş. I am a second year student at the Department of Psychology at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University. Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Department of Psychology continues education at Esenboğa Central Complex. It was established in 2012 to provide national and international psychology education. Our language of instruction is fully English. We have one year preparatory teaching for those who do not have sufficient English level. They continue their education when they pass the preparation. We continue our education in different fields of psychology with our highly qualified instructors. The first year courses of the Department of Psychology are; by taking the Introduction to Psychology course, we have comprehensive knowledge about almost all sub-fields of psychology. In addition, we take courses such as Statistics and Research Methods and form the basis of many things we will use throughout our education. As for second year courses, we take more basic science courses: Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Experimental Psychology…. elective courses are offered from different sub-fields that each student can choose according to their own interests. When we reach the third year we can say that we see more clinical courses: Psychopathology, Personality Theories… But with the elective courses, everyone similarly can progress according to their own interests. Practice courses also cover most of our fourth grade courses. In our department, we generally take classes in normal classes. We can use the lecture halls according to class size. We use computer labs for courses such as Statistics which we use computers. In our department, psychology laboratories and practice centers that enable students to put theoretical knowledge into practice are also active. Our department offers options for students. After finishing 3rd grade, volunteer students can do internship in certain institutions in the summer term. If the students want, they can write a thesis in fourth class. At the same time, students can also do voluntary internship during the summer term. After graduation, that our department provides education totally in English gives us an advantage for exams we’ll take in the future.
There are many areas where psychology graduates can work, for example, you can work as an academician by doing a master's degree or doctorate. Hospitals, courthouses, correctional houses, penal institutions, advertising, public relations, human resources are areas where psychologists can actively work. I preferred psychology; because to try to understand human behavior, mental processes; focusing on people and living things is a very valuable job. That's why the Psychology Department…I preferred Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University (AYBU); because it is very valuable to be able to speak a language, to have a good command of the literature and to do research in our field. Teaching fully in English and being a state university; at the same time, although it is a new school, it is developing rapidly, which was an important factor for choosing AYBU. One of the most valuable things on behalf of our department is our education staff. To know that there are instructors who are always behind us, whether it is about the lessons we are taking now or about our future and profession; It is very valuable for us to trust that they will support us with their knowledge, experience and sincerity. We receive the great support of our instructors in all our studies. At the same time, student clubs in our university are very active.
