My name is Diyar, my surname is Aydın. I am studying at İzmir Bakırçay University’s Faculty of Medicine. Our faculty is a 6-year undergraduate department. In our Faculty of Medicine, we study basic sciences in the first 3 years and clinical sciences in the next 3 years. We put the theoretical knowledge we learn into practice with the help of our professors. In general, the courses we take are given as vocational and minor courses. Some of our courses are not only theoretical but also supported by hands on education. Anatomy and Histology lessons can be given as examples. In the anatomy lessons, in addition to theoretical lessons, there are also Anatomy Laboratories where we are taught on cadavers or models. We also use microscopes during Histology lessons. These courses are given in the histology laboratories. Our clinical internships are carried out in our fourth and fifth years at Çiğli Training and Research Hospital, with whom our faculty has an agreement with. Here, we receive one-on-one training from our teachers in different areas for a period of time determined by them. In our sixth year we work as interns in the hospital. This is how we complete our degree. After graduation we can start working as a general practitioner, and become a workplace physician by obtaining a Workplace Physician Certificate. Apart from that, we can choose any of the specialty areas and focus our studies on that field. The reason why I chose to study in the Faculty of Medicine was because the Faculty of Medicine does not offer just one professional opportunity. In other departments, you determine your profession as soon as you decide on a department after the university exam. However, we decide after we complete our degree. In other words, after graduating from our undergraduate department, we have many fields of work such as working as a workplace physician, choosing a specialty in surgery or basic sciences, or becoming an academic staff member. In addition, it is possible for us to work in administrative areas such as a chief physician and an assistant chief physician. The reason why I chose İzmir Bakırçay University is İzmir Bakırçay University is much better than other state universities in terms of its physical conditions. Because it is one of the universities that has been converted from private to state. Therefore, it has much more physical opportunities. Moreover, Çiğli Training and Research Hospital, which our university has a contractual agreement with, offers such a large patient potential that no other Medical Faculty student may be able to see. After I graduate from the Faculty of Medicine, it is a dream of mine to form a project where every person in our country, from the most needy to the richest, can access a good doctor. My suggestion to those who will prefer İzmir Bakırçay University is to take advantage of our administrative staff members who will immediately get back to you when you have a problem or would like to make a request. I would also like to advise them to participate in the international opportunities and social activities provided by our university to its students.
