Biomedical Engineering

Hello, this is Yasin Erdoğan. I am a Research Assistant in the Biomedical Engineering Department. I started working at Bakırçay University in March 2020. Biomedical Engineering creates a bridge between the fields of medicine and engineering. It combines the fundamental sciences and some engineering fields. It’s a platform for that. It is a multidisciplinary field that blends Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Physics, Chemistry, Biology with them. In the department, we have programming courses from Computer Engineering, Circuit Fundamentals from Electrical and Electronics, and Circuit Analysis courses. Specifically, we have courses such as Medical Imaging Systems, Biomechanics, Biomaterials, Biosensors included in our department curriculum. We have a Biomedical Engineering laboratory in our department. Among these, we have 5 more laboratories from different branches. These 5 laboratories are the Bio-simulation Laboratories, Imaging Systems Laboratories, Biomechanics Laboratory, and Biosensor Laboratory. We have internship programs in our department. Our students can do their internships in medical fields in hospitals or clinics, health centers which perform services like diagnosis and check-ups of patients. In the industrial sector, they participate in the design and manufacturing of biomedical equipment. As a Graduation Project, students can conduct a graduation project with any academician they like in their last semester. After graduation, students can work in technical units of hospitals. They can work in the production, marketing and sales of medical devices in the industry, as well as maintenance, calibration and repair of medical devices. After graduating, they can complete their formations and become teachers in vocational schools, if they want to pursue such a career. My advice to the candidates who will choose our department is as follows. I recommend our department to those who are interested in the field of health and engineering, to those who have the ability to combine both. It's a very interesting field. They say it’s the profession of the future, and the future has already arrived. Let me share some information for the candidates who will come other cities. In our university, there are cinema halls, football fields, basketball courts and indoor sports halls that students can use. In addition, İzmir is a city that attracts students with its atmosphere and central location. I wish success to the candidates who will choose İzmir Bakırçay University Biomedical Engineering.
