Health Management

Hello, I am Lecturer İsmail Şimşir. I am the Head of Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Health Management. The coexistence of different occupational groups and various service areas in health service delivery requires an effective management approach. Considering the fact that 55 different health professionals work together in organizations providing health services, and in addition to these, the fact that many people who are not health professionals also have a role in this system, makes for quite a complex structure. The importance of health managers who have a command of medical terminology, who give importance to human resources management, specialize in issues such as accounting, financing, purchasing, and who have the need and competence qualification is increasing. Regarding all these aspects, the main goal of our department is to train healthcare managers who can take part in health organizations at all levels of the health system. In the first year of our undergraduate education, courses related to management such as General Management, Accounting, Economics, Law and Behavioral Sciences are given. Later, courses in the field of health such as Health Law, Health Organization Management in Health Care Organizations, Financing of Health Services, Quality Management in Health Services are provided. In addition, taking into account the importance of health tourism, a curriculum in which general and professional English courses are provided for students. In addition to our library that our students can use, we also have a computer lab, and they can use these to improve their knowledge and skills related to information technologies. Our undergraduate education program has been created within the framework of the 7 + 1 vision implemented by our university. Students have the opportunity to use the theoretical and practical knowledge they have acquired over 7 semesters in professional environments within the framework of collaborations with external stakeholders. So much so that most of our students can continue to work in the places where they do their internship within the framework of the 7 + 1 system. Sakarya University of Applied Sciences is an international university. Foreign exchange programs are offered to students by the Erasmus Coordination Office at our university. Students have the opportunity to benefit from these programs. In addition, the Erasmus commission established within our faculty and the faculty members of our department aim to improve the international cooperation of our university and contribute to our university by developing existing Erasmus agreements and adding new agreements as well. Although our faculty and department is a newly established institution, we are making an effort to organize an international congress with joint participation. We will continue our efforts in this regard. Graduates of the Health Management Department have a wide range of employment opportunities. They can work in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, dialysis centers, laboratories, private health insurance organizations, related organizations of the health industry, companies producing supplies and materials, and central and provincial organizations of the Ministry of Health and the Social Security Institution. In addition, it is possible to pursue postgraduate education in health management departments, which have been increasing rapidly in terms of numbers, and to work as an academician in these departments. The employment opportunities of the graduates of the Department of Health Management are not limited to this, but with the management knowledge and skills they will acquire, they can be employed as a manager in organizations that produce all kinds of goods and services. Sakarya offers students an enjoyable environment, thanks to its nature and climate. In Sakarya, there are thousands of houses, apartments and dormitories suitable for the needs of students. In addition, there are many cafes, restaurants, shopping centers and cultural centers where our students can spend time with their friends. Sakarya University of Applied Sciences is in the middle of big cities like Istanbul and Ankara and is very close to them, so you can go there via high-speed train, bus and private vehicles. These will enable our students to have both comfortable access to job opportunities and for some fun leisure time.
