International Trade and Finance

My name is Mehmet Bağış. I am a faculty member at Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Department of International Trade and Finance. I am also the head of the department, and I work on the strategic management and decision-making team. Our department carries out its studies with 8 faculty members, we have a professor, an associate professor, 6 doctor lecturers, as well as a research assistant that we are considering as a part of our staff, we carry out our education with 9 people in total. Our department opened in 2020 and received its students for the first time. Our department continues providing education in 70% Turkish and 30% English. Our students first start their education with the English preparatory class, then they take our related courses in our department for 4 years. In our department, courses on financial marketing, financial institutions and markets, customs procedures, international trade and export are provided along with Macroeconomics and Micro Economics courses. The courses in our department are mostly about finance and 30% of thos are given in English. It is taught by instructors who are experts in their fields and have English proficiency. Our faculty has an English Cafe where our students can improve their English speaking skills. At the same time, we have a canteen where our students can engage in social activities and develop social relations. In addition, we have computer labs where our students can improve their computer skills. 7 + 1 internship model is applied in our faculty. Our students take theoretical courses for 7 semesters and undertake an internship for a semester. Students can be employed in these companies and they work as interns at first, this is one of our greatest advantages. Our graduation projects are prepared by our students in the 8th term and presented to our teachers. After they are evaluated by our teachers, students graduate. Some of our students went to Canada and Australia after graduating. Through the Erasmus office of our university, our students can go to different universities abroad for one or two semesters and continue their education there, then they come back and continue their education here. I think it is a very useful program for our students to improve their English language proficiency.
We encourage our professors and students at the university to participate in national and international congresses and conferences. At the same time, we participate in them. We prepare and present studies together with our teachers, especially in international congresses and conferences. Our students can find jobs in two areas after graduation: In the private sector, especially in companies that carry out national and international operations, banks, insurance companies, financial institutions, stock markets and brokerage houses. In the public sector, they can be employed as senior managers in institutions such as the Ministry of Customs and Trade, the Ministry of Industry, customs undersecretariats, and the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. We want candidates who will choose our department to choose the job they will be happy with and the job they want to do, and if they think they will be happy here, we expect them to our department. We will also have a few suggestions regarding the requirements of the market. One of them is to improve their English language skills, make an effort to learn a second language if necessary, then follow scientific and technological developments continuously, as well as to keep up with opportunities and threats in the field of international trade and finance. We want them to stay up-to-date and constantly update themselves to integrate with the world. There are opportunities offered by our university for our students who will come to our university. I think the campus is great and beautiful. We are waiting for them. Technical trips specific to our department are carried out by our university. We have two clubs. Through these clubs, our students are constantly engaged in social activities, social trips, picnics, meetings, and different cultural trips. I want to tell our students that if they really want to work with us, we welcome them to our university, faculty and department. We make our promise that we will serve them with a great staff, with an education that can integrate with the world, and that they will be able to constantly update themselves and gain new talents and skills.
