Special Education Teaching

Hi, I'm İclal Bilgin. I am a 4th year student in the department of Special Education at Inonu University. Special Education department aims to train special education teachers with knowledge and professional equipment about individuals with special needs. In this context, the department of Special Education Teaching covers compulsory and elective courses in areas such as mental incompetence, autism spectrum disorder, learning difficulties, special ability, hearing impairment and visual impairment. In the curriculum of the department of Special Education we take compulsory field courses such as Applied Behavior Analysis, Social Skills Teaching, Turkish Sign Language, Braille Literacy, Turkish in Special Education, Mathematics Teaching in Special Education, Literacy Teaching in Special Education, Science and Social Studies Teaching in Special Education. In addition, we take educational courses such as Educational Psychology, Educational Philosophy, Teaching Principles and Methods, Measurement and Evaluation and Classroom Management. In addition to our faculty, classrooms and library, we also conduct our applied courses at the Research and Application Center for Children with Disabilities affiliated with our university. Special Education department includes 4 semesters of applied teaching including Observation in Special Education Institutions, School and Institution Experience in Special Education, Teaching Practice 1 and 2. After graduating from the Department of Special Education, we can be appointed as special education teachers to the General Directorate of Special Education and Guidance Services of the Ministry of National Education (MEB). In addition, our graduates can work as special education teachers in guidance and research centers. They can also work as special education teachers in special education and rehabilitation centers. The main purpose of my preference for Special Education is to help individuals with special needs, for them to participate in society as active, independent and productive as other individuals and to do something on their behalf by touching their lives. Special Education Teachers need to be expert, idealistic and pioneering teachers in their field. I chose this department to be one of these teachers. I chose Inonu University because of its many achievements, because it has a long history, and also because it has a renewed staff that specializes in special education. After graduating, my goal is to become an idealistic teacher who is an expert in the field. In the following processes, I want to be a researcher who contributes to this field by pursuing master's and doctorate programs in special education and touches the lives of special needs students. If you are an idealistic person and want to touch the lives of special needs students, you can choose the profession of Special Education Teaching.
