Department of Film and Television

Hello, I'm Caner Islam Polat. I am a 4th year student at the Department of Cinema and Television. I have been living in Eskişehir since 2017, and I am also the student representative of the department and faculty. Our department is the first department of our faculty, which was established in 1977. It provides education 30% in English. It is located at Yunus Emre Campus. Apart from that, theoretical and practical courses are provided together. Likewise, there are seminars, workshops, practices and a wide variety of events. One of the most important of these, Eskişehir Film Festival, has been organized for 20 years and the students of the department take part actively and voluntarily. This year, the 21st will be held at the end of November and beginning of December. In our department, theoretical and applied courses are provided together starting from the first year. For example, you learn to write screenplays in theoretical courses, you learn how to create a TV program. You examine directors and movements in the History of Cinema. In practice, you are expected to shoot a short film, documentaries, and broadcast a television program of your own format. Apart from this, there are vocational elective courses. You can choose them according to your area of interest. You can also take courses such as Mythology, Science Fiction and Cinema, Animation. In our department, there is a video studio that we use for our projects, there is also a television studio and a photography studio. There is a warehouse section where we supply the equipment. Apart from this, there is a Mac laboratory that we use for post-production for the post-production stages of the projects. There is an optional internship in the department. Students of the department can do internships at the places they prefer and receive acceptance. They can also attend seminar courses given by people from the sector. All production, shooting process and post-shooting of a project is under your responsibility. Our department graduates can find a place for themselves in all areas of cinema and television. They can work as camera operators, it can be other areas related to the image, it can be technical areas such as sound, light, decor. Apart from this, they can find a job for themselves in the production part, which we can call the pre-production stage. Also, they can focus on the initial creative stages, such as copywriting and screenwriting. They can also work in animation photography and even in the advertising industry, which are the minor branches. They can also work in areas such as editing, color, dubbing, sound mixing, in the post-production stages.
The main reason why I chose my department is, for the most part, is because I love cinema. Frankly, I chose it because I didn't want it to remain as a hobby. After deciding to study in the Cinema and Television Department, when I started to research different departments and different universities, I thought that Anadolu University and this department were the right choice for me. The training they provide is not only theoretical, that is, it covers both the practical and the theoretical aspects. Apart from this, the courses provided in the curriculum are also covered with workshops. This gives an advantage to work in the sector and other fields after graduation. Likewise, there are plenty of opportunities abroad, so I spent a semester abroad with an exchange program. Anadolu University is a well established university, a proper educational institution, which ensures that all programs and practices are student-oriented. It has a very nice campus and this campus is in the city center. This provides a great advantage for students in terms of accommodation, transportation. The campus has great benefits. You can participate in social activities. You can attend artistic events, such as cinema, theater and opera. Apart from that, if you are interested in sports, there are plenty of events. For these reasons, I chose Anadolu University. During my time here, I had the opportunity to work in two different jobs. One of them was a short-term job and the other was a long-term job. I was interested in video shooting and editing. After graduation, I would like to advance in areas such as screenwriting and content production, mostly in the preparation part of the job. I can say this to students who will choose our department. If they like cinema but have any reservations about choosing it, they should just go for it. Here, in our department, theoretical and practical training from the most basic to the highest level is given in one place. There are plenty of things students can benefit from. They have the chance to apply what they learned theoretically, where they can consult their teachers and get help from their friends. They can participate in activities other than attending their courses. In this way, they can develop themselves both socially and academically. If you are interested in the Cinema and Television Department, if you think you can be successful in this field, you can choose this department without any doubts.
