Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling

Hello, I'm Birsen Kömürcü. I am a senior student at Social Sciences University of Ankara, Faculty of Education, Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling. The aim of the Guidance and Psychological Counseling Program is to train psychological counselors who are ready to respond to the personal, social, professional, and academic needs of individuals. Psychological counselors gain skills to deal with problems that people may encounter throughout their lives. They also guide people to unlock their potential. Guidance and Psychological Counseling Department only accepts students with equal weight score type. It is a four-year undergraduate program. We take courses like Developmental Psychology, Learning Psychology, Psychological Counseling Application, Guidance and Psychological Counseling for Students, Counseling Theories, Counseling Principles and Techniques, Professional Ethics, Legal Issues, and Counseling Skills. In addition to these, we can take the elective courses which focus on our fields of specialization. We also have many applied courses. There is a Guidance and Psychological Counseling Application Unit room for our applied courses. We gain skills in the field of counseling by interviewing real clients with our instructors in the Application Units. In our senior year, we go to the schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education as interns and carry out our studies under the supervision of the school's guidance teacher and our instructors. I chose my department to support people in solving their problems and to help them to discover their talents and potential. I chose Social Sciences University of Ankara because it provides Turkish education in Cyprus in the field of Psychological Counseling and Guidance and also because it is a public university. Thanks to the application unit in our department, we can easily perform our applications. We are able to get quality education thanks to our qualified faculty members. We are able to form warm and sincere relations with our faculty members. We can easily reach them whenever we want. They are fair to us. Therefore, we are able to form equal relations. After graduating from my department, I want to pursue an academic career . I am planning to get a master's degree and then complete my PhD studies. I recommend candidates who are interested in our school and department to read books on psychology. I wish success to students who are taking the exam.
