My name is Eylem İrem Morkoç. I am doing my master's degree in Social Psychology Subfield at Hacettepe University, Department of Psychology. I am also a Research Assistant in the Social Psychology Sub-Field at Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University. Psychology is a science that examines human and animal behaviour, emotions and thoughts. Psychology has many sub-fields such as experimental psychology, social psychology, and clinical psychology. Currently, there is no active psychology department at Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University. However, we are continuing the preparations to establish the department. Currently, in the department, there are research assistants in Industrial Organizational Psychology, Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Experimental Psychology and they carry on with their studies. The subfield of clinical psychology is concerned with the treatment processes of people by conducting research and examinations of their psychological problems. Social psychology is a subfield that deals with how people are affected by the presence of other people. Experimental psychology is a subfield of psychology that conducts more laboratory and controlled experiments. Industrial-organizational psychology is a subfield that studies the psychology of people in business life. Developmental psychology is a subfield that studies human development from prenatal to death. In summary, there are many subfields in psychology. In the Department of Psychology, firstly, an introductory psychology course is taught about what psychology is. Later, as they move on to the upper grades, emphasis is placed on courses in the subfields of psychology. Courses such as clinical psychology, social psychology, and developmental psychology are offered. There are courses for both theoretical and applied fields of psychology. In these courses, students both improve their theoretical knowledge and learn how to make applications in psychology. In courses like research skills, they can learn how to conduct research etc. Students who graduated from the Department of Psychology; can work as a psychologist in places such as the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Family and the Ministry of Health. Apart from that, special education centres, kindergartens, schools, advertising companies, and agencies are some of the options that psychology graduates can work. In addition, they can improve their academic skills by continuing their graduate education at universities. They can carry on with their studies as a research assistant or lecturer. Students generally start to have difficulties when they switch to sub-field courses in psychology. They may have difficulties in courses such as clinical psychology and social psychology. It is likely that they have difficulty as they begin to learn more detailed information. My advice is that students study as regularly as possible and not lose their interest. Psychology is a field that requires a lot of reading and students should not neglect this. Apart from that, Statistics courses can be challenging for students. Our instructors offer many different resources for statistics courses. I encourage students to consider these suggestions and take advantage of these resources, there are so many possibilities on the internet today. I recommend they take advantage of these opportunities. My advice to candidates who will choose the Department of Psychology is to have a passion for humanity. Psychology is an area where you do a lot of research, read and improve your understanding as much as possible. Thus I recommend they be open to change, love to read, be curious, and be open to learning new information about new fields. I wish success to the candidates who will take the university exam.
