Nutrition and Dietetics

Hello, I'm Eda Albala Gedik. I am studying Nutrition and Dietetics at Bandirma Onyedi Eylul University. It is a field that focuses on human health and nutrition, as the name suggests. It is about the problems of public health, nutrition, and diseases. In this way, it is a department where we examine its principles and fields of study, learn its ethical values ​​and make scientific approaches. We take courses such as Nutritional Principles, Toxicology, Allergies, Biochemistry, Physiology, and Anatomy. In addition to these, we also take more detailed courses such as our professional ethics courses, Mother and Child Diseases. We have two laboratories in the department. One of them is our Microbiology Laboratory. We conduct our theoretical courses, experiments and studies, such as Microbiology there. The other one is where we are now. This is our Nutrition Principles Laboratory, where we make our anthropometric measurements. I can say that we are very lucky in this regard. The department has two compulsory internship programs, in the summer of the 3rd year and in the 4th year. We do our internship in the 4th grade as a continuation of the courses we take. We do it on the basis of previous courses. We also have graduation projects, which are based on the continuation of previous courses too. Our instructors assign the subjects of the projects. Apart from these, we have the right to do voluntary internships. This opportunity is very nice. Nutritionists are needed everywhere. In fact, we can work in mass nutrition facilities, gyms, hospitals, schools, dormitories, and many other places. We have job opportunities in many places. We can do our internships in many places.
Personally, I found the department's principles applicable to myself as I am already someone who wants to live a sustainable life. I mean, it felt natural. Also the courses intrigued me. Apart from my interest and natural talent, I realized the department and its discipline was much more than a basic information; it is a field that is very open to innovation. That's why I chose this department. I chose our university for its great location. Because the places that students want to visit are very close and the location is very nice. Our university is quite new. This shows that the university can improve. Because 50% of the profile of a university consists of academic staff and the opportunities it offers, the other 50% is students' self-development. That's why I think Bandirma Onyedi Eylul University is a very lucky and beautiful university in this respect. We are also very lucky. We try to take advantage of it. There are many opportunities our department offers. First of all, I would like to talk about our academic staff. Our instructors really care about us. They already have a very good knowledge and they are trying to enlighten us. They are very interested not only in internships or classes, but also in preparing us for our careers. Also, our laboratories. Our labs are quite well equipped. We learn about cooking techniques, theoretical knowledge, and applications. Since these laboratories are not available in many universities, it becomes an important factor that makes our university stand out. My post-graduation goal is to offer something innovative for the future. I want to contribute to public health. I want to pursue an academic career. But before that, I definitely want to be in the professional field. First of all, I can say the following for the candidates who will attend our university and department. I think they should research well and know themselves well. Because if you attend a department that you don't want or don't like, you will have a hard time. Because university is the most important step before your professional life. Therefore, it is very important for you to discover your talents, your interests, and where you position yourself in society.
