Political Science and Public Administration

Hello. I am Prof. Dr. Ahmet NOHUTCU. I am a faculty member in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Istanbul Medeniyet University's Faculty of Political Sciences. I am also the head of the Department of Legal Sciences within our department. In the Political Science and Public Administration department, courses are offered based on a broad curriculum in both political science and public administration. We have courses in both Turkish and English. All of our courses in the English program are conducted in English. Therefore, I believe that our English courses are highly beneficial for our students to adapt to the evolving and changing dynamics of the world and to align with academic literature. Additionally, as part of a second foreign language program, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Korean, and even Persian is also provided. Thus, our department actually has a significant, broad, and dynamic curriculum aimed at producing individuals who can contribute to and shape productive processes at the local, national, and international levels. We have a wide range of courses in a multidisciplinary curriculum. In this context, we offer courses such as political theory, comparative political theories, history of political thought, history of Turkish political thought, media ethics, constitutional law, administrative law, Turkish Islamic thought, not to mention political science, management science, sociology, political sociology, and political psychology. In addition to these, our students have the opportunity to pursue minors or take courses from other departments such as history, philosophy, and sociology. Therefore, our department provides a suitable platform and opportunity to cultivate knowledgeable and dynamic young individuals, candidates, and university graduates in every field of social sciences in today's dynamic world. Our department provides internship opportunities for all students starting from the first semester of the second year. These internships can take place in public institutions such as governorates, ministries, and even the legislative body, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. They can find internships in non-governmental organizations, foundations, and other public-interest associations. Through these internships, our students have the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in practice and gain valuable experience. Therefore, internship opportunities are one of the significant advantages offered by our department to our students. Furthermore, our department provides students with the opportunity to participate in the ERASMUS program and study abroad. They can choose from various countries such as Poland, Germany, Italy, France, and others. By studying abroad for one or sometimes two semesters, they can broaden their perspectives, enhance their skills, and improve their foreign language proficiency. Along with international mobility, our students can also take courses at other universities in Turkey through the Farabi program, which provides them with additional benefits. Upon graduation from our Political Science and Public Administration program, students have employment opportunities in various fields, including the public sector, bureaucracy, local governments, private sector, banking, and the finance industry. However, it should be noted that our program primarily focuses on educating professionals for the public sector, such as politicians, bureaucrats, district governors, inspectors, auditors, and experts. Therefore, they can pursue careers in administrative judiciary, district governorship, Court of Accounts, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labor and Social Security, as well as local governments and municipalities. Additionally, depending on their qualifications, skills, and interests, they can find employment in various sectors in the private sector.

Our department, as its name implies, focuses primarily on social sciences, such as political science, public administration, and even legal sciences, constitutional law, administrative law, history, philosophy, and sociology. Due to this interdisciplinary nature, students in the early years of our department often face challenges in quantitative-based courses. For example, statistics, accounting, and economics courses can be difficult for our students. However, with the dedication, dialogue, motivation, and guidance of our faculty members, these challenges are overcome. In the end, we all embrace success together, having overcome these difficulties through collaboration. Istanbul, our city, has been the capital of numerous empires, states, and cultures for thousands of years. In this city of civilizations, Istanbul Medeniyet University offers many opportunities, including technical facilities, educational resources, library services, and a convenient commute. Our university is located at the intersection of Kadıköy and Üsküdar, with easy access to public transportation, including the metrobus, metro, and buses. Our library, the largest university library among approximately 210 universities in Turkey, belongs to us.
