Economics
Hello, I am Faruk BAL. I am a faculty member at Istanbul Medeniyet University, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Economics. I am also the head of the Economics Department. Our department is part of the Faculty of Political Sciences and offers two programs: a Turkish-taught economics program and a 100% English-taught economics program. The compulsory courses we offer in the Economics Department include microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, econometrics, and economic thought. In addition, we have a wide range of elective courses. Among our elective courses, we offer important subjects in economics such as economic development, international economics, money and banking, as well as recently emerging fields like applied econometrics, mathematical modeling, behavioral economics, and analysis with AR. We also offer courses tailored to the needs of the field, such as Islamic economics, behavioral economics, and financial economics. As we have practical courses in our department, we make use of the computer laboratory belonging to the Faculty of Political Sciences. Courses such as statistics, microeconomics, and economics are conducted with practical applications in this laboratory. As a department, we emphasize not only the personal development but also the academic achievements and professional growth of our students. Therefore, our students are required to participate in a mandatory internship program. The students of the Economics Department can benefit from international exchange programs. To provide our students with experiential learning opportunities, we organize programs that involve economics faculty members, experts from various social science fields, and professionals from the industry. These programs can last for a month or two and aim to enhance students' experiences. The field of economics offers a wide range of career opportunities. Graduates of the Economics Department can find employment in diverse sectors such as finance, banking, insurance, trade, manufacturing, education, healthcare, and services, both in the private and public sectors. Microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, and econometrics are often the most challenging courses for our economics students. Since these are fundamental courses in the economics curriculum, we provide additional support by incorporating mathematics courses in the first year to prepare students for microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. In the second year, we offer statistics 1 and 2 courses to further reinforce their understanding. Through problem-solving and practical exercises, we assist students in overcoming these challenges. Istanbul Medeniyet University is a young and developing institution, and its social opportunities are expanding every day. It is easily accessible, offering convenient commute options. Because it is located in a central place on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, right in front of metro and bus stops, and very close to the metrobus. It is easy to reach from all parts of Istanbul, and transportation is convenient. Our university's newly built library is the largest university library in Turkey. It has extensive digital resources as well as a wide range of written and printed materials. Our students have the opportunity to benefit extensively from this library during exam periods and regular terms. Our university has numerous student clubs and organizations. Among them, the Economics Club organizes programs to provide our students with social and professional experiences. Students who choose our department need to decide what they want to study and what they want to become in the future. Another important point is that economics is closely intertwined with mathematics. Therefore, students need to have an affinity for mathematics. Students who love mathematics, have a passion for it, are interested in current events, and possess analytical skills can choose the economics department. I wish good luck to the candidates who will take the university entrance exam. We invite you all to Istanbul Medeniyet University, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Economics.
