Department of International Trade
Hello, my name is Melis Sevinç and I am a third-year student at Ufuk University, in the Department of International Trade. The department was founded in 2006 with the main aim of providing qualified personnel for the developing international trade sector. It aims to train students that have analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. We take courses in a range of fields such as law economics, business, entrepreneurship, and logistics. We work in the real sector observing business areas rather than in laboratories and workshops. We take the graduation project in the 4th year as a course. Every week we work with our teachers and continue to improve ourselves in the light of their knowledge. Our internships are not compulsory, so we undertake our internships with the principle of volunteering. However, our school helps us find a business or communicates with the businesses we specify. In addition, our school pays for our insurance expenses which must be paid at the time of the internship. Our main fields of work in the private sector are export, import, revenue, finance and accounting areas. At the same time, we can find employment in the public sector in a number of ministries, such as the Ministry of Customs and the Ministry of Finance. Also, after completing our undergraduate education, we can continue our academic career by pursuing a master's degree. I noticed that I was more interested in economics when I was following current events in my high school years. As a result, I came across the international trade department when looking for departments related to economics. After examining the advantages of the international trade department, I never changed my goal and continued in this direction from my time in high school until university selection. The more I looked at the teaching staff, the more valuable names I came across, which attracted me to this university. Then I knew that it was the right decision to choose Ufuk University when I saw that education was not just theoretical but it also prepared us for the real sector. This year the Foreign Trade Training Certificate Program at Ankara Chamber of Commerce which I attended was very beneficial for me. Every year, our university sends students to this program from the Department of International Trade and our knowledge really develops. At the same time, our university has communities where we can develop, or participate, according to every area of interest. I am also the chairman of the International Trade, Economy and Logistics Community of Ufuk University. We run real sector trips in our community, where we explore business opportunities. We also hold meetings twice a month within the framework of scientific events. Together with our academic staff, we can discuss current issues and exchange ideas. Another advantage is that we have a Career Guidance Unit where we always stop by and work on our future. At the same time, we can invite important people that will impact our future to our school and organise conferences and panel discussions in which we participate with experts in their field. After graduation, I plan to continue my postgraduate studies and pursue an academic career. The Department of International Trade covers a wide range of areas and employment opportunities are really broad. I suggest that first of all you should scrutinize your own knowledge, your hobbies, and the topics you care about and make your choice considering the advantages this department offers. I wish success to those candidates who choose the Department of International Trade at Ufuk University.
