Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation
Hello, I am Şeyma Özal. I am a student at Ankrara Yıldırım Beyazıt University in the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department involves planning and implementation of physiotherapy using physiotherapy-specific assessment methods in all kinds of diseases that cause movement disorders, injuries, disability, old-age dysfunction and pain. In the first year we receive basic medical courses such as Pathology, Physiology, and Histology. We receive Physiotherapy lessons in the second year. There are rehabilitation courses in the third year and clinic lessons considered as an internship in the fourth year. There are labs in the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation departments. We use these labs for the lessons in the Electrotherapy, Manual Therapy, Rehabilitation, Measurement-Evaluation and Therapy courses. In addition, we have our Anatomy and Physiology courses in laboratories that we share with the Faculty of Medicine. There are internship periods in the summer terms of the second and third year and during the semester of the fourth year. We can also organize our internships in places such as institutions or hospitals, if we wish. If we cannot, the school can organize it for us. After graduation, we have work opportunities in pediatrics, geriatrics, intensive care units, neurology clinics, spa centers, and places related to women’s health such as gestation, birth, pregnancy centers. I have always wanted to have a job in which I can wear a white coat. I could have been a doctor, nurse, dentist, or a physiotherapist. When I came to high school, I searched for the ideal job for myself and decided that physiotherapy was the most suitable profession for me.
While considering my university exam results, I felt the academic staff and facilities at Ankrara Yıldırım Beyazıt University were suitable for myself and so I chose this university. Compared to other universities in Ankara, Ankrara Yıldırım Beyazıt University is newly founded and a young university, so it is developing its academic studies and university facilities by displaying it’s maximum effort. That's why the academic staff are young people who are experts in their fields, who love to work, and are idealists. They aim to teach information to students rather than just doing their lessons and leaving. So, the academic staff at the university is so successful. At the same time, each campus of our school has multiple study halls and libraries. In these libraries, we can find periodicals and indefinite publications, international journals and all kinds of textbooks. There are also spring festivals and activities organized by the highly influential student clubs. My goal after graduation is to pursue a master's degree and continue my clinical work as a specialist physiotherapist. Although our department is only 4 years old, it is a very intensive department since the academic studies are difficult. However, it is a department that we students are very fond of and where our lessons are fun, because we have both theoretical and practical lessons. In order to make your job easier in the professional sense, being more patient, understanding and loving to work as a characteristic will make your job easier. I wish success to the students who choose the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University.
