Department of Nursing

My name is Busra Çiftçi. I am a second year student at the Faculty of Health Sciences at Yıldırım Beyazıt University in Ankara. Our department was established in 2010 as the first department of the Faculty of Health Sciences. The aim of our department is to educate more qualified, research-oriented and apt nurses and to enable them to serve society better. We take courses such as Anatomy, Microbiology, Histology and Physiology in order to understand the human body better in the first year of the Nursing Department. We start to take introductory nursing courses in the second semester of the first year. Then we go to the clinics and are given the opportunity to put the theoretical knowledge we learned, into practice. In the second year, we take the Internal Medicine Nursing course and then Gynecology and Obstetrics Nursing courses. We have three laboratories in our department. One of them is the Anatomy Laboratory. We have the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge that we get in the anatomy course so we can retain it practically in our minds, therefore reinforcing the lessons we learned in theory. One of the other two laboratories is our Simulator Laboratory. In this laboratory, we have the opportunity to apply the information we have acquired in the Nursing Principles course to practice, with the help of our instructors. Thus, before we go to hospitals, we have the opportunity to reinforce our subjects. Our third laboratory is the laboratory where we carry out the practical applications related to gynecology and obstetrics.
Every year, we perform our clinical applications in the form of providing healthcare services to patients from 8AM to 4PM for 21 working days with the help of our instructors. We have the opportunity to practice before we start working at the hospital through question-answer type discussions and reviewing the main articles we have chosen with our instructors and the leading educational nurses. This is our job before beginning our profession. After graduating from the department, we can take the KPSS (Public Personnel Selection Exam) and work in public hospitals. We can also work in private hospitals. In addition, we can serve as academic in community health centers, family health centers, nursing homes, schools, universities or work under the title of the workplace nurse. I've seen myself as a nursing candidate since I was a child. I chose the nursing profession to provide nursing services, care and emotional support to patients. I chose this university since it was a promising university. One of the things I benefit from most from our education and training is the expert teaching staff. I think that it is useful for me that my teachers communicate their knowledge and experience to us clearly. In addition, the presence of activities such as billiards, table tennis and various sports activities in our school ensures that students do not live on a study-only basis. In addition, we have a library. We have the opportunity to find many books in Turkish and English. After graduation, I would like to actively work as a nurse in a clinic or on the field. I can tell the candidates who will choose our university that our university is an innovative and self-improving university. They will come here and be able to realize the dreams of their future. That’s why I suggest they come here. I wish success to students who will choose our university and department.
