Vocational School of Technical Sciences

I am Professor Erdoğan Köse, I am the Director of Istanbul University - Cerrahpaşa Rectorate, Technical Sciences Vocational School. Our school continues providing education and training services in 31 programs including 5 licensed formal, 17 formal and 9 evening education programs. Our school offers education in many fields, such as in Graphic Design, Printing and Broadcasting Technologies, Radio and Television Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, Computer Technologies, Electricity, Machinery, Civil Aviation Cabin Services, Aircraft Technology, Underwater Technology, Shoe Design and Production, Leather Technology, Civil Defense, Firefighting and Health: quite a wide spectrum of fields. Our Vocational School sends 30% of its students to engineering faculties with the Vertical Transfer Exam. Many of our students who are highly successful go to engineering faculties with the Vertical Transfer Exam. Students who graduate from our department are well-equipped, sought-after and qualified people, who can find employment in every field of the industry within the scope of university-industry cooperation. Our vocational school provides Laboratory and applied courses based on these 31 programs. For example, the Aircraft Technology Program is a program that has a laboratory where studies are conducted on the propeller systems, fuel systems, control systems, brake systems of aircrafts. It is program approved by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation. Let me give another example from our Underwater Technology Program. We have diving suits, equipment and practice areas to go down to a depth of 42 meters. Another example: our Biomedical Equipment Technology Program is also approved by the Ministry of Health. Here, too, we have laboratories. In our vocational school we have a Hydraulic Pneumatic Laboratory, CLC (Clinical Laboratory Products) Laboratory, Machine and Lathe Workshop, Electrical Machines and Electric Motors Laboratory, Electrical - Electronic Measurement Laboratories, Computer, Mac and Graphics Laboratories, Shoe Production Workshop, Leather Industry Processing Laboratory, for each of our programs. In the case of the labs we don’t have, we provide education through internships and theoretical courses conducted jointly with licensed institutions. Our graduate students work in industries as sought-after, qualified, well-informed and well-equipped individuals. An internship is mandatory in our school. In addition to the 2-month internship application, in some programs, studies and graduation projects are also requested. Let me tak about the employment prospects of our students. Electronic Communication Technology Program graduates can work with Türk Telekom's subcontractors, in fiber optic cable repairs and fiber optic cable operations. As our graduates graduated from a licensed program from here, they can directly work with Türk Telekom's subcontractors. Accredited by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, graduates of the Aircraft Technology Program can also directly work in airline companies' maintenance workshops at Turkish Airlines. Graduates of the Cabin Services Program can become flight attendants in airlines and take part in ground handling services. Our Underwater Technology Program graduates can work in the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, as they already have a diving license. They are able to work as qualified personnel in municipalities which have coasts. Graduates of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Program can find work in sectors involved in air conditioning. It is possible to expand this range. Graduates of the Graphic Design Program can work as designers for outdoor advertising, print sites, and have the chance to become qualified professionals. Our Vocational School students can benefit from foreign exchange programs. Our students who meet the requirements can apply and benefit from programs abroad with the Erasmus Program, depending on their foreign language scores. Our Vocational School provides education with the help of a qualified academic staff, who have worked in the sector and academy. Students have the chance to learn from experienced professors. In addition to the high quality education provided to our students, the fact that all the programs of the Vocational School of Technical Sciences are located in Büyükçekmece Campus, in which there is a large library and a cafeteria with a view of Büyükçekmece Lake, and the fact that all programs have their own workshops and laboratories, proves to be quite advantageous for our students. Although they have some difficulties in terms of the commute to the Büyükçekmece campus, the campus is better compared to other vocational schools as it has various cafeterias, sports areas, wide walking paths and is green. Among the vocational schools in Turkey, the rankings of the students who choose our school are highest. Since the time I became the director in 2016, the highest-ranking students choose the Vocational School of Technical Sciences. Students coming to our Vocational School take part in the orientation program. In this orientation program, we tell them that they will not be satisfied with this place, that they have to go further, that they came here with high scores and that they came here thinking that they will not study engineering in a remote Anatolian village. We prepare them for the Vertical Transfer Exam starting from the first year, and we offer them the chance to use the library and reading facilities. We provide psychological support and motivate our students taking the Vertical Transfer Exam. As a result of this support and the hard work of our students, 30% of them transferred to faculties. I can say that the aim of 40% of the students coming to our Vocational School is to become business owners. Apart from that, we have said that 30% of our students continue receiving education to complete their undergraduate program. Let me say this to our friends who will choose our Vocational School. Here, they will receive a quality education. A quality campus life will be offered to them as long as they carry on with their education. They will have a better life thanks to the facilities offered to them in the campus. When they come here, they will find the motivation to carry on with their studies. I can say that our experienced teachers will be able to guide them and motivate them throughout this journey. For these reasons, I think that students who want to study in a vocational school with the highest scores should choose us.
