Vocational School of Veterinary Medicine

I am İbrahim Kurban, Deputy Director of Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Vocational School of Veterinary Medicine. We also have two part departments and programs. One of our associate degree programs is Food Technology Associate Degree Program and the other is Horse Breeding and Training Associate Degree Program. Our Food Technology Program has two laboratories. In our Horse Breeding and Training Program, we provide indoor and outdoor training (like riding and racing horse training). We have paddocks (where racing horses are situated during the race) and horse-riding areas. We have 2 modern horse shelters and a building where our school is located. We have an internship program in this department. Our students do their workplace practice internship for a month. Students who graduate from the Horse Breeding and Training Program can find employment in the race-courses of the Jokey Club of Turkey and Turkish Horse Riding Federation. They can work as horse trainers in hippodromes. They can work as rider trainers in riding clubs. They can find employment opportunities as hippotherapy coaches in units related to hippotherapy. In addition, the students of the Horse Breeding and Training Program can transfer to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine with the Vertical Transfer Exam. Food Technology students graduate as Food Technicians. They can also find employment in workplaces related to the food sector by filling the demand for intermediary members. Our Food Technology Program trains intermediate members for an industry that will always need a work force supply. In our Food Technology Program, students will have the opportunity to receive training from expert faculty members and to do internships and find employment in some workplaces related to food, thanks to the advantage of being in Istanbul. Therefore, it would be wiser for them to choose us rather than other universities. We have a lot of horses in our Horse Breeding and Training Program, we have 74 horses. We have horses which were trained in the Traditional Sports Branches Federation. We also have thorough bred horses which will compete in the competitions of the Jokey Club of Turkey. We have practices related to hippotherapy horse riding for the disabled. It would be better for students to choose a program that aims to serve every sector of horse breeding like these. Before graduation, we plan out what they will do by directing our students to internship places while they are in the one-month internship period. Students from our program have the chance to shape their future by participating in internship programs in the hippodromes of the Jokey Club of Turkey, and the riding clubs, hippotherapy centers of the Turkish Horse Riding Federation. In addition, they can complete their undergraduate studies in veterinary faculties with the Vertical Transfer Exam. When they apply for veterinary faculties, they find a path for themselves in the field of horse medicine as they have studies in this program. Let me say this to the students who will choose our university.
