Teaching Music

Hello, I'm Ömer Çoban. I have been working as an instructor in Trakya University, Faculty of Education, Department of Music Education for about 10 years. I teach classes such as Western Music Theory and Practice, Piano, Harmony and Equalization. The Music Education Department was established in 2007 and accepts students every year with a talent exam. I can say that we have a young and dynamic teaching staff, and therefore our students' communication with us is very good. We are also a very active department in terms of concerts and events. The courses in the Music Teaching Program are divided into three as field education courses, vocational knowledge courses and general culture courses. Introduction to Education and Educational Psychology can be given as examples of vocational knowledge courses. For field education courses, I can exemplify courses such as Western Music Theory and Practice, Individual Instrument, Chorus, and Traditional Turkish Art Music. Finally, general culture courses consist of courses such as Turkish Language, Foreign Language, and Atatürk's Principles and Revolutions. Apart from these, there are also elective courses under all three fields. In our department, we have study areas for courses with different needs such as Individual Instrument and Piano Study Rooms, Choir Class, Orchestra and Chamber Music lessons. In addition to these, the presence of conference and concert halls in our faculty and in various parts of our university also allows us to hold events and concerts. Our students have the opportunity to study abroad with Erasmus and Mevlana student exchange programs. Our faculty and students participate in many national and international events, concerts and conferences such as Mersin Nevit Kodallı Polyphonic Choirs Festival, Pamukkale University Choirs Festival and 29 October Republic Day Reception organized by Sofia Embassy. Like every teacher graduated from the Faculty of Education, our students can also work as teachers in all institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education when they graduate. In addition, they can open private course centers under the Ministry of National Education. Our department accepts students with a special talent exam. For this reason, I recommend that all candidates carefully read the exam guidelines announced on the website of the Faculty of Education about a month before the exam and concentrate their studies in this context. Trakya University offers its students a wide range of accommodation options. Apart from this, it also has a wide range of student societies. Our university supports the activities of these communities in every aspect. In addition, our university, which has pioneered the establishment of the Balkan Universities Association, supports the participation of our students in the activities held in these countries.
