Wind and Percussion Instruments
Hello, I am Instructor Doctor Zerrin Tan. I am a faculty member of Trakya University’s State Conservatory, Wind and Percussion Instruments Department. I graduated from Çukurova University’s State Conservatory. Upon my graduation in 2006, I was appointed to teach at Trakya University’s State Conservatory, Wind and Percussion Instruments Department. I am still taking oboe lessons. As the name suggests, our department educates students on wind instruments and percussion instruments. Our department provides courses are in middle school, high school, undergraduate and graduate levels art proficiency programs. Art branches in our department include flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba and percussion instruments. In the middle school section of the Wind Instruments branch within the conservatory, students are given the main instrument lessons and the piano lessons. In the high school department, in addition to the main instrument and piano lessons, chamber music and orchestra lessons are given to enable them to develop professionally. An undergraduate student completes their undergraduate education by specializing in an instrument of their own choosing with all these courses. In our department, our students take their main instrument lessons individually, one-on-one with the main art branch instructor. Apart from this, there are study rooms where our students carry out their own studies. There are Chamber Music Halls where chamber music lessons are held, a Concert Hall and large halls where orchestra lessons are held. Students graduate by performing a 45-minute program consisting of a concerto, sonata and pieces, which we describe as a full program. With this program, he/she can be a candidate to enter the orchestra exams or any graduate program he/she wants. With the Erasmus program carried out by Trakya University Foreign Relations Research Center, we send our undergraduate students within the body of the conservatory to universities abroad, with which Trakya University has signed an agreement, to achieve development in their own branches and to gain motivation and self-confidence during the semester. With the support of the Rectorate of Trakya University, the conservatory hosts workshops and masterclasses with renowned artists recognized at home and abroad in order to improve the instrument education of our children. In these masterclasses, our students study for a week with these renowned artists. They also perform concerts accompanied by the Balkan Symphony Orchestra, which consists of the teachers of our State Conservatory. In addition, our students have participated in competitions in their own branches at home and abroad, and we support our students as our instructors and school administration.
Students who have completed the undergraduate education at Trakya University’s State Conservatory can find employment in state orchestras. In addition, they can find opportunities to pursue a career abroad by improving their skills and improving their language. In addition, they can continue their academic careers at any university in Turkey by enrolling in master's and doctoral programs. They can work as music teachers in public and private schools. They can also become independent musicians. Prospective students should embrace the idea the instrument they choose will be a central part of their lives after the conservatory. For this reason, I think that they should work hard by prioritizing theirinstruments and embracing the idea that hardship is most sacred. I also think that students should be very active during the education period and attend every workshop, masterclass, event and concert. Accommodation support, social activitiessupport, and instrument support are provided for our students who come to our university from outside the province, and also for our students who lack financial means. In addition, because Trakya University is the largest university in the Balkans and due to its prominence in the Balkan geography, it is our aim to support our students abroad through our university. Since Trakya University is the largest university in the Balkans thanks to its location, we enable our students to take part in many activities of the conservatory abroad. If you want to take advantage of these opportunities and develop your artistic self in our community, we invite you to Trakya University State Conservatory.
