Faculty of Sports Sciences

Hello everyone, I'm Fikri Eralp. I graduated from the Sports Academy in 1981. I worked at Marmara University for many years. After my retirement, I started working at Foundation Universities. I have been working as a faculty member at Istanbul Topkapı University for two years. İstanbul Topkapı University, Faculty of Sports Sciences started accepting students in 2020. We currently have first and second grade students in our faculty. In our faculty there are the Department of Sports Management, Department of Coaching Education and Department of Recreation Education. In these departments, along with the common courses, Specialization courses are offered in the third and fourth grades. In our common pool lessons, Health Information lessons gain importance. These are courses such as Anatomy, Kinesiology, Functional Anatomy, Movement Science, Health Information, Nutrition, Ergogenic Aid and Training Information. We also offer applied courses such as Team Sports, Volleyball, Basketball, Handball, Football, Swimming, and Gymnastics. İstanbul Topkapı University, Faculty of Sports Sciences is located in Levent Campus. In this campus, we have a large indoor sports hall, two indoor tennis courts, a gymnasium, and an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. While our students continue their education in the facilities I mentioned, they can also benefit from the fitness rooms. Starting from the 3rd and 4th grades at Istanbul Topkapı University Faculty of Sports Sciences, our students can find internship opportunities in the Coaching, Sports Management and Recreation departments. They can do these internships, especially in the 3rd grade, in sports clubs, public institutions clubs, and social facilities. Students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences can benefit from the ERASMUS Program, starting from their second year. Students who fulfill the requirements of the program are funded for their education with ERASMUS projects for a semester or two semesters at universities in European countries that our university has agreements with. In the Faculty of Sport Sciences, both theoretical and practical courses are offered. We are able to establish close relationships with our students and, accordingly, we direct our students to student congresses in order to contribute to job opportunities in the sector and their development. As teaching staff, our faculty members present studies to international or national congresses held at home and abroad, and they contribute to the research environment of our university. The students of the Department of Coaching, can graduate from specialization branches as of the 3rd grade. This means that they can graduate with a 3rd level trainer certificate. Our graduates, who have the 3rd level trainer certificate, can find a professional job in the sector. In addition, students of the Sports Management and Recreation Department can have a 1st Degree coaching certificate in any sports branch they are trained in. Naturally, our students, as 1st and 2nd graders, step into the sector as monitors or assistant coaches at the private sports clubs during the weekends.
I can give the following advice to prospective students who want to study at the Faculty of Sports Sciences: Apart from professional sports branches, Sports include many activities that are done in order to stay healthy. Accordingly, many branches of the sports industry such as sports broadcasting, sports journalism, health-related areas, professional sports-related areas, training science, and statistics coaching are developing fields. Accordingly, students of these departments, during their 4-year undergraduate education, especially at the end of the first 2 years, can find jobs in different fields in this sector. Apart from this, they can become trainers in areas such as textiles, materials, sports shoes, outdoor sports, climbing sports, adrenaline sports, adventure sports, water sports, extreme sports and winter sports. In addition, they can find professional jobs in these organizations. They can find a variety of employment opportunities in the sports sector. Since our training covers both theoretical and applied fields, they will receive a good education in the highly developing spectrum of this sector without any problems. If they participate in seminars and congresses where they can improve themselves, they will be able to find a job in the sector. Of course, education, as in every field, is about the development of people. However, sports training is a process that offers incredible opportunities and continues to develop day by day. It is very important for people with disabilities to improve themselves in areas ranging from sports broadcasting, statistics coaching to sports for health, and sports rehabilitation for disabled individuals. In addition, if they can implement the practical aspects of their courses and with the guidance to be made in line with the close relations with our education staff, they will be sought after individuals in this sector. The Faculty of Sports Sciences is located in Levent Campus in Beşiktaş district of Istanbul. The fact that our campus is in the center, especially close to the subway that is connected to Marmaray, and being neighbor to Beşiktaş district, enables our students to have easy access to public transportation.
