Department of Psychology

Hello, I am Süeda İlayda YALÇIN. I am a third-year student in the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Psychology is a branch of science that focuses on behavior and the mind. Its aim is to graduate well-equipped mental health professionals with the title of psychologist. The psychology department has a very wide field. While we take more basic courses such as sociology, philosophy, critical thinking, and general psychology in the first year, we take versatile courses such as psychopharmacology, psychopathology, clinical psychology, forensic psychology, and cognitive psychology in the second, third, and fourth years. After graduating from the Department of Psychology, we have a wide range of work areas, such as the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Family and Social Services, clinics, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, courthouses, prisons, police forces, orphanages, and nursing homes. I chose psychology because it is always my field of interest, it draws my attention, and in addition, I like to communicate with people and touch their lives. While choosing Istanbul Esenyurt University, the thing I paid the most attention to was its academic staff. I researched and studied in detail. Because I saw that each of our professors is well-equipped in terms of knowledge, expertise, and experience, I chose Istanbul Esenyurt University. While I was studying at the Department of Psychology, I benefited from the extensive resources of our library because of its extensive resources. In addition, we have the opportunity to study 24/7 in the library during exam weeks. There is plenty of space for individual work as well as group rooms for group work. The opportunity that I benefited most from was the library service. After graduating from the Department of Psychology, I want to develop myself in the academic field and become a lecturer, and the first step is to graduate. My first goal is to get a master's degree, and in parallel, I want to work in a forensic institution in order to experience the forensic dimension of my profession. I would advise candidates to think through whether they really want this part. Because psychology is a popular department, it is quite normal for this situation to have an impact on people. I think that there is no other profession in the world that communicates with people as much as the profession of psychology. Therefore, good communication, being a good listener, and being able to empathize are extremely important features for this profession. I advise prospective students to evaluate whether they have these characteristics or whether they will have them in the future. Regarding Istanbul Esenyurt University, I strongly recommend that they take advantage of the social activities of our university, which is in a very central location.
