Hello, I am Prof. Dr. Mustafa Fatih Erkoç. I am the dean of Yozgat Bozok University, Faculty of Medicine.
Our faculty was established in 2007 and the first students were admitted to Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2009-2010 academic year. After fulfilling our physical conditions, we have accepted our students in 2016-2017 academic year in our own building within Bozok University Faculty of Medicine.
In our university, there are 40 main disciplines working within the scope of Surgical Medical Sciences and Basic Medical Sciences.
In our faculty, we have a total of 146 staff, including 24 professors.
In general, while developing our medical school curriculum, we take into account the Core Education Programme, the Medical Specialty Board and the National Qualification Programme. In addition, by constantly working in an organised and coordinated manner with these institutions, we make the necessary revisions in our curriculum without wasting time when any revision is required. In addition to these, we enrich the curriculum courses with Programme Based Learning, Good Medical Practices and Professional Skills Practices Programme.
In our university, we have three lecture theatres with a total capacity of 100 students each. In addition to these, we have 14 fully equipped classrooms with a capacity of 600 students. In addition, we have 12 seminar and lecture halls with a total capacity of 600 students, which are physically located in all main branches of science. In addition to these, our laboratories, which we consider indispensable for medical education, are very important for us, we have a total of 9 anatomy dissection laboratories, anatomy model laboratories, simulation laboratories, professional skills laboratories and microscopy laboratories. The point I would like to attract your attention here is, that the equipment in these laboratories, which is not available in most medical faculties, is organised in such a way that each student has at least one.
We always support our students in various projects within our university. Within the scope of 2209A project, we support our university students in TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) university students development projects and TÜBİTAK 2246 intern student programmes. In this regard, we have a third place project in Turkey in which our students received awards.
We work in coordination with the ERASMUS unit within our faculty and provide opportunities abroad for our students who want to study abroad.
Within our faculty, we work with our students together with many communities such as the Medical Student Union Community, Doctors of the Earth Community, Bozok Chess Community and Traditional Turkish Archery Community.
Since all of our students graduating from our faculty of medicine graduate with the title of medical doctor, they have the potential to serve in every field throughout our country.
As you can certainly agree with, medical school education involves a very difficult process. Our students who receive very intensive theoretical education in the first three years may have difficulties in this process when they switch to clinical branches; since they receive their education by establishing good medical practices and one-to-one relationship with the patient.
Within this process, all our academic staff always support our students both in clinics and basic sciences, and we have a counsellor lecturer for each student starting from the first year of education and continuing until the last year. Our counsellor lecturers follow the student with close relationships for six years, sharing and supporting their own experiences in order to be a good physician as well as medical school education. Since all of our students graduating from our faculty of medicine graduate with the title of medical physician, they have the potential to serve in every field throughout our country.
Medical school education and continuing your life as a medical doctor is a matter of heart, because you go through a very intensive education process.
This education does not end after graduation. You need to strengthen yourself in academic subjects for a lifetime and devote yourself to your profession in a way that you can work under intense stress when necessary. Our university has a dynamic staff. Compared to the newly established universities, I can say that we are ahead of many of them both physically and in terms of academic staff. In addition, I expect you to prefer it because it is a compact city, there is no traffic problem, it is a student-friendly city and it is economically more favourable conditions.
