Department of Mathematics

Hello, I am Prof. Dr. Murat BABAARSLAN. I am the head of the Department of Mathematics at Yozgat Bozok University, Faculty of Sciences and Literature. I have been working at our university for 15 years. I am also the head of the main department of mathematics and the head of the main department of geometry.
Our Department of Mathematics was opened in 1996 as an affiliate of Erciyes University Yozgat Faculty of Science and Letters, and in 2006, it was affiliated to Yozgat Bozok University Rectorate and since then it continues its education life with 77 students. In our department, there are 6 main disciplines: analysis and theory of functions, algebra and number theory, geometry, foundations of mathematics and mathematology, applied mathematics and topology.
As of now, our department has 12 staff including 1 professor, 5 associate professors, 5 assistant professors and 1 research assistant.
In our department, we have 4 classrooms in total, one classroom with a capacity of 72 students and 3 classrooms with a capacity of 60 students. We also have 1 student computer laboratory. We have 3 projection devices in 2 classrooms and computer labs.
"Our department offers courses in analysis, algebra, topology, geometry, differential equations, probability, statistics and computer programming.
Our programme is in accordance with the FD criteria. "
Our department has an 80 square metre student computer laboratory equipped with 40 computers. We also have a mathematics and intelligence community that organises social responsibility projects, department promotions and department seminars.
Our final year students are required to give 2 semester graduation thesis projects in order to be graduated. These projects are TUBITAK 2209A (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) projects.
Students in our department can study abroad for 1 or 2 semesters through exchange programmes such as ERASMUS and Farabi.
Our department has been accredited by FEDEK (Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Curricula of Faculties of Science, Literature, Language and History, Geography) for the period between 14 April 2022-30 September 2024. Our department has organised 77 seminars with speakers from 27 different universities since 2018. In April 2019, the conference titled 'Confessions of a Mathematician' by the late Prof. Dr. Cem TEZER from the Middle East Technical University was held at our university. In addition, in the same year, Imagine Mathematics Exhibition was exhibited in our faculty. In May 2022, the International Geometry Workshop supported by TUBITAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) was held in our department.
The primary goal of our department for graduates is to train academicians. In addition, YÖK (Council of Higher Education), TUBITAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) scholarships, they can do master's and doctorate abroad. They can become teachers after receiving formation training in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. They can work as analysts and consultants in ASELSAN (Military Electronics Industry), TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) and banks. They can also work in data processing centres. They can work in the IT sector and as programmers by doing double major, minor or master's degree with computer engineering.
Our students may have difficulties in different courses according to their interests. We try to overcome these difficulties by analysing questions in practice courses, different current course materials and computer support. In addition, they can transfer their problems related to the courses to their counsellors. Apart from this, student satisfaction surveys, course and faculty evaluation surveys are conducted in our department. The results of these are evaluated and analysed by the heads of each department.
Students are advised to study maths, geometry, and computer courses in the high school course and build a solid foundation.
For those who will come to Yozgat Bozok University, Yozgat is a city with historical and natural beauties. We can give examples such as Sarıkaya Roman Bath, Turkey's first national natural park Çamlık National Park, Kerkenes Ruins. Apart from this, it is a city with road access to many parts of Turkey in terms of transport. At the same time, there is a high speed train planned to be opened. Being a spacious, peaceful, safe and economical city, there is a dormitory with a high occupancy rate in Turkey. Apart from this, Yozgat Bozok University offers many opportunities to students with double major and minor opportunities, exchange programmes, quality and accreditation processes.
